DUTIES:

CLINICAL:

  • Primary focus of practice is the independent clinical evaluation of Veterans through new patient intake program including prevention and patient self-management. Comprehensive evaluations will be provided to both male and female Veterans.
  • Promotes, directs, evaluates and is responsible for referral to management of clinical concerns that are found during these evaluations.
  • Functions as a member of the Medical Staff, collaborates with clinical and administrative support members to provide timely, quality, coordinated care for Veterans.
  • Utilizes and promotes approved standards of care, procedures, methods and techniques, safety precautions and protocols in their application to this population in all settings.
  • Collaborates with other health care resources to insure continuity of care.
  • Keeps abreast of latest trends, skills, procedures, and protocols relevant in the area of specialty and serves as a resource person for the medical center staff.
  • Provides gender specific care to men and women in primary care setting.
Informatics:
  • Applying health informatics methods to advance VISN and VA medical facility goals pertaining to the quality, safety, efficiency of health care and population health while improving end user satisfaction with informatics-managed health IT systems
  • Participating in teaming efforts within the VISN and in collaboration with national health informatics programs to advance consistent health care standards in multiple clinical domains.
  • Improving their informatics competencies through recommended training as detailed in the Enterprise Health Informatics Operations Guide.
  • Collaborating across departments in the VA medical facility and VISN to continuously improve the delivery of health care through knowledge of how health IT supports local clinical processes, strategic data analysis, and implementation of informatics products.
Administrative:
  • Assists with arranging continuity care across the VHA system as needed.
  • Works to provide leadership on site to ensure care is completed in required timeframes.
  • Participates in Quality Improvement activities
  • Participates and attends medical center committees as assigned by the CHIO.
Education/Research:
  • Assures self-development responsibilities and maintains current knowledge of trends in clinical care and the theory, evidence base and implementation of shared medical appointments
  • Participates in clinical research programs when appropriate.
  • If involved in an outgoing research project, abides by all VA regulations governing research protocols/policies and/or procedures.


Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm

Contract Buy Out Program: This position may be eligible for the Physician / Provider Contract Buy Out Program (CBOP), which authorizes VHA to buy out service contracts (Locum agreements, loan repayments, sign-on bonus contracts, Physician-owned practices) in exchange for employment at certain rural or highly rural facilities for a period of obligated service (minimum 4 years). Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Physician Assistant Basic Requirements

  • Master's degree in any discipline or a bachelor's degree in any discipline with one year of experience as a Physician Assistant ~AND~
  • Successfully passed the PA National Certifying Exam (PANCE) (or are you in the process to taking the exam) ~AND~
  • Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia.

Physical Requirements: Light lifting (under 15 lbs.); light carrying (under 15 lbs.); use of fingers, walking 4-8 hours; standing 4-8 hours; near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other; hearing (aid permitted); working closely with others; working alone; emotional and mental stability required.
