Duties

Help
  • Plan day-to-day work requirements working in collaboration with Project Office Maintenance Managers and assigning weekly work orders to your team.
  • Participate with Operations Project, Park and Maintenance Managers on long range planning by providing input on projected asset maintenance requirements for new construction or modification of existing facilities.
  • Perform a variety of trades and labor occupations including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, concrete/masonry, welding, labor, and as required, water and sewage treatment operation and maintenance
  • Participate in the development of contract requirements and specifications for indefinite quantity, maintenance, or onetime/job order contract (JOC) projects and estimates for Indefinite Quarterly Contracts (IQC).
  • Conduct inspections of flood control operating facilities, dams, and appurtenances to ensure proper operation and required maintenance of dam embankments, hydraulic gates, cranes, pumps, motors, valves, switches, contacts, circuits and relays.
  • Conduct oversight and monitoring of dam, berms, and abutments for signs of stress in accordance with the requirements of the Dam Safety program

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Drivers License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • Employee must obtain and maintain a current Corps of Engineers motorboat operators license including all requirements of the District Licensing Policy within one year of appointment.
  • Employee must obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within one year of appointment.
  • Position requires certification to operate wastewater systems within one year of appointment.
  • Incumbent must be able to lift at least 40 pounds or more.
  • This position requires a pre-employment physical, and annually thereafter.
  • This position can be required to work irregular duty hours to include working nights, weekends and holidays.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Mechanic Leader without more than normal supervision. Candidates must have the ability to perform common Maintenance Mechanic Leader tasks such as: plan work for a variety of maintenance, repair, and operational tasks in a number of trades and labor occupations and assist with inspections of flood control operating facilities, dams, and appurtenances - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • USE OF MEASURING INSTRUMENTS (MECHANICAL, ELECTRICAL, ELECTRONIC, AS APPROPRIATE TO LINE OF WORK)
  • Physical Effort: Works from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms where areas are hard to reach. Work requires standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and climbing, and may be performed in cramped positions, under equipment, structures, etc. Frequently required to lift and carry parts and items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Working Conditions: Work is performed outside in extremes of weather or inside shop and other buildings. Work involves walking and climbing of steps, slopes, and uneven surfaces. There is danger of injury such as cuts, burns, electrical shock, and bruises while use of power tools and welding equipment, strains from lifting or work in awkward positions, and danger of drowning while working in proximity of the water. Work involves close proximity and/or operate hoisting equipment and/or cranes, in accordance with prescribed safety standards.
