Help
  • Inspect various types of ammunition explosives and ammunition components to determine acceptance within specifications, plans, and directives.
  • Review technical documents to determine specifications for inspections.
  • Verify the calibration of gages and equipment.
  • Perform inspections of ammunition components and supply items.

  • This position requires you to obtain certification requirements outlined in AMC-R 350-4 - Training and Certification Program for Personnel Working in Ammunition Operations.
  • This position requires an Arms, Ammunition and Explosives (AAE) Security Certification/Screening in accordance AR 190-11.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position is designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, you are required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Explosives Operator Work Inspector without more than normal supervision. Perform common preliminary inspections of ammunition components. I can readily recognize deteriorated, damaged, or unserviceable items. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT- Duties involve substantial amounts of standing and walking with a moderate amount of stooping, bending, and lifting of items weighing up to approximately 50 pounds and occasionally in excess of 50 pounds to perform the required inspections. All lifts over 50 pounds will be assisted with a two person lift or using a mechanical handling equipment device. The two person lift limit is 100 pounds and will only be used for single event, non-routine lifts.

WORKING CONDITIONS- Work is usually performed indoors, or outdoors, in covered areas which provide some protection. Work areas are usually well lighted and ventilated. Some operations cause uncomfortable steam or heat in the work area. Work areas are seldom air-conditioned. Workers are required to stand on floors made of concrete. Protective clothing and equipment will be required as mandated, depending on the operations. May be exposed to fumes from numerous agents and the possibility of flash fire. There is a chance of injury ranging from loss of life or limbs, to burns, cuts, bruises, sprains, and nausea.

  • Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a Term appointment will be appointed/converted into a Term appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position.
