Duties

Help
  • Vets incoming subjects to determine whether appropriate need for access exists.
  • Perform vehicle checks to ensure safe and secure access to the installation.
  • Render first aid if warranted in an emergency.
  • Alert appropriate officials of security violations.
  • Conducts random inspections in accordance with force protection requirements.
  • Provides authoritative guidance and information on security regulations and procedures in response to security inquiries.
  • Question suspicious persons to warn or detain as appropriate.
  • Exercise crowd control during events and/or demonstrations.

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • Incumbents must successfully complete US Customs Certification training. Incumbent must be able to obtain and sustain (every year) federal certification for performing Customs inspections on personnel and aircraft returning from overseas.
  • This position requires certification in the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) in accordance with AR 190-56.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial and semi-annually qualification in the use of assigned firearms/weapons IAW AR 190-56 "The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program".
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training. Incumbent must be able to pass and maintain flight line driving certifications for airfield operations.
  • This position requires certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation with Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training.
  • This position requires the use of personal protective equipment provided by the employer, such as wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
  • Incumbent will be required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual physical agility test (PAT). Failure to meet the standards after the second attempt within a ninety-day period will result in separation.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • Incumbent must wear the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform IAW AR 190-56, maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
  • Incumbent must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments.
  • Employee must be able to perform as a member of the installation's overall security response capability and require for the employee to carry and deploy a riot baton, carry a protective shield and employ non-lethal ammunitions if necessary.
  • This position is subject to the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment and bans individuals convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence and certain others from possession or access to firearms or ammunition.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes work with federal, state, municipal, local or private protective organizations safeguarding personnel, information and/or assets; recording visitor information and determining whether authorization for access exists; protecting property against hazards such as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; OR maintaining order and protecting life. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

  • In accordance with AR 690-11, this position has been designated as "Key" and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization as doing so would seriously impair the capability of the organization to function effectively. The incumbent must be exempted from recall to active duty and will receive training to ensure mission accomplishment of sustaining base operations during mobilization.
  • This is a Term position scheduled to last 13 Months. A term position may be extended to a maximum of six years depending upon the needs of management.
  • Term employment is subject to a one year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.

  • Salary negotiations for those candidates who are new to Federal service may be authorized.
