Duties

Help
  • You will coordinate with FAP case manager in developing appropriate plan of assistance/intervention, which provides for the safety of the victim and their family members.
  • You will provide advocacy service to non-offending parents or caregiver of the identified victims of child abuse.
  • You will develop and facilitate briefings and classes to commands and other military agencies on domestic abuse and child abuse.
  • You will provide training on domestic abuse prevention, identification of child and spouse abuse, and provide resources to prevent and treat domestic abuse and Navy's policy regarding family violence.
  • You will train all Child Youth Program (CYP) personnel who work with children on the causes and effect of child abuse and neglect, identification of child abuse and neglect and the reporting responsibilities.
  • You will provide outreach services to promote awareness of Domestic Violence and Child Abuse to the community through events, online promotions and other coordinated services with Commands.
  • You will be responsible for responding to after hours calls to the FAP On-Call Phone to address and offer VA services to whomever is calling to report DV or CA incidents.

  • Must have or obtain within six (6) months of hire and maintain the Basic Advocate Credential and Comprehensive Intervention Specialist designation per NACP/NOVA policy guidelines, and complete initial and ongoing certification training requirements.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: providing family advocacy services for victims of spouse/intimate partner abuse and child abuse, community outreach, education and training for the service population and providing assistance to non-offending parents or caregivers to victim of child abuse.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

The incumbent must meet the qualification requirements described in the 32 CFR, Part 61, Subpart B, PS 29: Prevention and Education Staff Qualifications AND PS 30: Victim advocate staff qualifications.

Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess.

Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

or

Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

or

Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
