Summary

This position is located in the Mid-Atlantic Region, Fleet and Family Readiness Program, Fleet Readiness Department in the Fitness/Sports and Deployed Support Department. The purpose of this position is to provide a comprehensive fitness, sports, and aquatic program for the installation serviced.

Duties

Help

Through Subordinate supervisors develops, plans, markets and administers fitness programming servicing the needs of ashore and afloat commands. Direct the conduct of leagues, tournaments, and administers fitness programs to meet the needs of a diverse customer base. Evaluates presents programs and develops goals and objectives to make changes to programming or establishes new ones.

The incumbent is responsible for operation and management of the assigned fitness facilities and may include gymnasiums. Fitness centers, swimming pools, sports fields, racquetball and tennis courts and running trails. Incumbent must ensure that facilities are efficiently scheduled and well maintained.

Through subordinate supervisors sets daily priorities, assigns projects, and evaluates results. Delegates authority to supervisors and holds them accountable for the performance of their assigned area. Assures supervisors comply with safety and occupational health standards and EEO directives and philosophy.

Serves as the onsite fitness authority on committees and other bodies engages in developing programming designed to improve wellness of the military community.

Prepares and submits input for NAF and APF budgetary requirements, financial reports and justification/support documentation necessary to implement and maintain the fitness programs. Ensures that inventory levels are adequate and operations are consistent with MWR guidelines and fitness standards.

Establishes and maintains internal controls over all fitness property, equipment and supplies. Maintains all property management records, hand receipt files and property location information.

Maintains records and files and is responsible for all aspects of management correspondence. Generates reports as required by higher headquarters, and command as necessary. Maintains an up to date library of references and resource materials. Develops revisions, amendments and changes to local standard operating procedures and disposes of files, records and directives that are obsolete.

Supervises assigned staff, conducts employee appraisals, advocates training, and provides appropriate recognition and feedback for performance.

Performs other related duties as required.

SUPERVISORY STATEMENT
Supervisory duties include: assigning and prioritizing work, evaluating staff performance, recommending awards/pay adjustments, approving and disapproving leave, interviewing and recommending hire of candidate4s, support Equal Employment Opportunity mandates and objectives, and initiating corrective and disciplinary actions as appropriate or required.

  • Must possess and maintain a current driver's license to drive a government vehicle in the performance of duties be required.

  • Must possess a minimum of three years of documented experience in personnel supervision and fitness programming.

Qualifications

Resumes must include information which demonstrates experience and knowledge, skills, and ability (KSAs) as they relate to this position. Applicants are encouraged to be clear and specific when describing their experience level and KSAs.

A qualified candidate must possess:

  • Must possess basic knowledge of principles of exercise plus a working knowledge of the Navy Physical Readiness Training (PRT) program.
  • Working knowledge of league and tournament organization and operation as well as basic rules of play of major team and individual sports.
  • Must possess knowledge of NAF and APF budgeting and facility developments systems and procedures.
  • General knowledge of the operation of aquatic programming and facility management.
  • Skill to develop new methods, systems and procedures for effective management of a fitness program of this size, scope and complexity.
  • Knowledge of Navy Physical fitness standards and be able to adapt standards to local demands with the wellness of the entire population being of primary concern.

Education

A bachelor's degree in recreation, leisure studies, exercise science or a related field is preferred but may be substituted by an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Salary is dependent on experience and/or education.
