Duties

Help
  • Direct and supervise professional and technical personnel for day-to-day inpatient pharmacy activities, including medication dispensing, sterile and non-sterile compounding, and medication distribution
  • Plan and coordinate funds, personnel, and equipment needed to accomplish mission goals.
  • Assign work and prepare and execute performance appraisals.
  • Responsible for programs that impact facility wide long, range plans, functions and programs
  • Reviews inpatient medication orders to screen for possible chemical, physical, or therapeutic incompatibilities, drug interactions, appropriate dosing, and patient allergies
  • Ensures compliance with all federal and state regulations, departmental policies, and accreditation standards
  • Implement and monitor quality control programs and medication safety initiatives to reduce errors and improve patient outcomes. Investigate and resolve medication-related incidents and manage reconciliation processes.

  • One-year supervisory probationary period required. A one-year probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
  • This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Supervisory Pharmacist:

Education
: A doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirement above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0660 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.

Licensure: A current, active, valid, and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, a territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia.

Medical Requirement: Must be able to distinguish basic colors.

Experience: One year of professional pharmacy experience which includes one year of professional pharmacy experience which includes dispensing medications and preparing pharmaceuticals in a Medical Facility. This definition of experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12 or above).
