Duties

Help
  • Remove designated explosive materials from magazines or production areas.
  • Place explosives material in trenches, excavations, pits or behind revetment and place appropriate detonating charges, attach fuses and fuse wires or lay powder train within established regulations.
  • Set and fire charges with blasting caps, detonating fuses, time fuses, blasting machines, push-down generators or similar equipment.
  • Operate mobile industrial equipment to move dirt to cover demolition charges, fill craters created by detonation, and to do maintenance on the demolition range.
  • Direct employees by providing daily work instructions and advising on proper procedures and techniques.

  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position meets the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening and random testing.
  • This position is a Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as Lautenberg Amendment. This act bans individuals convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence and certain others from possession or access to firearms or ammunition.
  • This position requires an Arms, Ammunition and Explosives (AAE) Security Certification/Screening in accordance AR 190-11.
  • This position requires you to possess and maintain a valid stateside driver's license.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Munitions Destroyer (Engineering Equipment Operator) Leader without more than normal supervision. Destruct a variety of explosives and ammunition using explosive ordnance disposal procedures; Identify and handle ammunition and explosives; Recognize damaged or unserviceable ammunition, explosives, or ammunition components; and pass on instructions received from supervisor, demonstrated work procedures. I work under normal supervision of a supervisor or upper-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: This position requires arduous work including occasional heavy lifting, kneeling, bending, frequent walking and extensive standing at a moderate work pace.

Working Conditions: The incumbent will be working around moving equipment. Will be exposed to dangerous and deteriorated explosives resulting in possibility of toxic smoke inhalation, cuts, bruises, sprains, or burns. The majority of work will be outside with exposure to all types of weather, dirt, noise, dust, fumes, etc. Workers will wear protective clothing such as specially treated coveralls, gloves, and respirator protectors, as necessary. Incumbent at times may be required to work on Production Lines.

  • Position may be filled as a time-limited promotion, reassignment or change to lower grade not to exceed (NTE) 1 year by a current permanent Army employee. Time-limited promotions may be extended up to a maximum of five years. Time-limited reassignments and changes to lower grade may exceed five years, however return rights may be impacted. Position may be made permanent without further competition.
