The podiatrist serves as a Program Manager for the Primary Care Mental Health Integration (PCMHI) Team at the Pulyallup VA Clinic within the VA Puget Sound Health Care System (VAPSHCS). Individuals designated as Program Managers have broad program management responsibilities, supervisory responsibilities and clinical responsibilities.

Program Management (30%)

  • Leads a multidisciplinary team that may include psychologists, physicians, social workers, nurses, and other health care professionals and trainees.
  • Development, implementation, and oversight of operational policies and procedures for the team.
  • Collaborates with Patient Aligned Care Teams (PACT) and extended PACT leadership to conduct operations.
  • Conducts ongoing program evaluation to monitor the effectiveness of operations within their program.
  • Organizes and leads team meetings to facilitate effective clinical interventions and adherence to administrative demands.
  • Monitors and distributes workload reports to team members and ensures adherence to workload standards.
  • Collaborates with associated VA health care programs to effectively coordinate services.
  • Monitors compliance of team members with VA performance measures and effectively shapes provider practice patterns to improve standing on performance measures.
  • Provides clinical supervision to assigned team members regarding adherence to VA Puget Sound Health Care System medico-legal stands and policies, documentation of CPRS procedures, and the clinical management of difficult, complex, and dangerous patients.
Supervisory (10%)
  • Functions as the first line supervising authority for up to 13 employees. For these individuals, the incumbent provides administrative, as well as clinical, supervision and/or consultation.
  • Provides administrative oversight and clinical consultation to up to 7 other interdisciplinary team members for whom the incumbent is not the designated first line rating authority.
  • Provides clinical supervision for trainees.
Clinical (60%)
  • Provides consultation to PACT, functional assessments and diagnostic services for Veterans receiving care within the PCMHI team
  • Demonstrates expertise in using and teaching others about functional assessments, brief evaluation and interventions for Veterans presenting with the full range of mental and behavioral health conditions in PACT.
  • Educates patients and family members regarding mental disorders and best practices approaches to treatment.
  • Provides comprehensive assessment of Veterans at imminent risk of harm to self and/or others (including grave disability) and facilitates admission for acute psychiatric hospitalization.
  • Provides pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy as indicated for assigned patients.
  • Orders, monitors, and responds to necessary laboratory and radiological assessments.
  • Consults with health care providers about assessment findings and treatment plan for patients to ensure that care is coordinated, collaborative, and integrated within the Medical Center.
  • Adheres to all Facility and Service Line policies and practices for delivering clinical care, including but not limited to risk assessment and reduction practices for potentially dangerous behavior (suicide and violence), timeliness of care and access standards, professional conduct requirements, and CPRS documentation conventions.
  • Physicians are fully licensed and function independently as a member of the VAPSHCS Medical Staff with full clinical privileges. Physicians additionally assume independent professional responsibility for their clinical assessment findings, patient care decisions, and documentation.

Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Podiatrist Basic Requirements

  • Degree as a doctor of podiatric medicine, or its equivalent, from a school of podiatric medicine approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Approved schools are United States schools of podiatric medicine approved by the Council on Podiatry Education of the American Podiatry Association in the year in which the degree was granted. ~AND~
  • Completed, or currently completing, residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. VA Podiatrists involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status. Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Council on Podiatric Medical Education, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or (2) Other residencies and training experiences, or their equivalents, which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. ~AND~
  • Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice Podiatry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia.
