Summary

This position is located in the Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department of Commander Navy Region Southwest (CNRSW). The primary purpose of this position is to ensure, through working and supervising construction and maintenance personnel in the safe and efficient construction and repair of recreational and athletic facilities.Additionally, the Marina and RV Park Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for forecasting material and manpower needs and organizing and directing resources.

Duties

Help

Maintenance duties comprise 40% of incumbent's time and include but are not limited to:

  • Performs minor to moderately difficult repairs to sailboats, power boats, dock and RV pedestals, utility carts, mowers, irrigation system, machinery, vehicles, golf carts, blowers, chainsaws and other equipment
  • Repairs, renovates, maintains, paints, replaces, fixes, cleans, and inspects building surfaces, structures, equipment, etc.
  • Maintains areas in and around the park/picnic areas, empties trash containers, empties barbeque pits of used charcoal; ensures Marina and RV Park are free of debris; paints equipment as needed and trims trees
  • Operates a tractor with front load bucket and scraper to grade beaches and/or forklift to load and unload materials and equipment; uses weed eater to trim along fences and buildings; repairs fences and windscreens; repairs, replaces fixes, adds or removes picnic tables, barbecue grills and outdoor drinking fountains, prunes trees; cleans and maintains picnic areas, docks and RV sites
  • Maintains area in and around the beaches; monitors sand build up; empties trash containers, empties fire pits of ash and debris, ensures beach charcoal collection containers are emptied
  • Performs lumber framing, drywall and electrical installation and repairs. Uses sketches, blueprints and drawings to plan and lay out repairs to buildings
  • Selects, cuts, shapes, joins, bonds, fits and assembles wooden materials and parts, using the full range of band and power tools, machines and techniques to required lengths and dimensions
  • Performs plumbing tasks by installing parts and maintaining fixtures
  • Ensures required reports and records are properly maintained
  • Obtains and maintains government purchase card (GPC) to purchase supplies, parts materials and equipment; determines discrepancies of short or damaged items. Responsible for all property assigned.

  • Must be able to walk, stand, stoop, bend, climb, stretch and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
  • Must be able to life and carry supplies and materials that weight up to 40 pounds.
  • Use of hand trucks and dollies may be required.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of care, maintenance and repair of sailboats, power boats, docks and RV pedestals
  • Knowledge of care, maintenance and repair of motor vehicles
  • Knowledge of recreational facility grounds maintenance techniques and requirements
  • Knowledge of complexities and interrelationships of soils, fertilizers, irrigation, drainage and insect control, turf diseases, fungicides, herbicides, weeds and insects
  • Skill in operating a forklift, tractor mower and other grounds equipment
  • Knowledge of carpentry and skill in applying carpentry concepts such as interpreting sketches, drawings and blueprints
  • Ability to compute, check and insure the consistency of the dimensions of a number of inter-locking parts
  • Ability to make templates and patterns and to select appropriate machines, tools and techniques
  • Knowledge of wood and wood substitute materials and construction techniques
  • Ability to construct, alter, repair and install walls
  • Ability to draw accurate sketches to specifications including accurate measurements
  • Ability to interpret and apply building plans and blueprints, use shop mathematics, and lay out such things are angles, arcs and circles
  • Knowledge, ability and skill in using a wide range of tools and machinery
  • Knowledge of various properties and characteristics of wood materials
  • Knowledge and ability to use variety of meters and testing and measuring equipment within the irrigation field
  • Knowledge of standard plumbing methods and techniques and skill in using plumbing tools such as tapes, hacksaws, pipe threader, pipe wrenches, hammer, etc
  • Skill in repairing and maintaining tools and equipment
  • Skill in operating various lawn maintenance equipment
  • Ability to perform the full range of supervisory duties
  • Knowledge of standard Non Appropriated Fund inventory and procument procedures
  • Ability to make independent judgements and sound decisions
  • Ability to maintain records and reports
