Duties

Help
  • Participate in Performance Improvement duties.
  • Review and verify medical records against specific criteria as set forth in the DHA-PM 6025, NAVMED P-117 and local instructions.
  • Prepare a Medical Record Deficiency form citing specific discrepancies and the physician (s) responsible for the correction.
  • Prepare monthly reports to notify individual physicians of their record deficiencies.
  • Abstract discrepancies into the deficiency tracking module of the on-line inpatient data system by the employee.
  • Records identified as awaiting transcription will be annotated and tracked for completion.
  • Receive files, and track narrative summaries, operation reports, and other ancillary reports which are received subsequent to a patient's discharge.
  • Search for the appropriate medical reports and scan a copy into the electronic health records into the appropriate E.H.R. tab, according to established guidelines.
  • Collect inpatient and ambulatory surgical documents of patients discharged from the previous day and reviews them against the unit reports to determine if there are any missing charts.
  • Verify pertinent patient data from the record with the information in the computer and makes additions/corrections as necessary.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 25 pounds is required.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes reviewing, updating, and tracking medical records, and utilizing an automated system database to generate reports. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

OR

Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
