Duties

Help
  • Responsible for all mountain safety activities such as opening and closing trails, removing, reporting and marking hazards and reporting trail conditions.
  • Performs trail checks, responds to accidents, provides emergency medical care necessary to pass the patient to the next level of care, assists with mountain rescue including lift evacuation and transport.
  • Ensure first aid supplies and equipment are maintained and available at all times. Efficiently and safely provide direct patient care; including determining the nature of injury, equipment needed for stabilization and transport.
  • Ensures patrons are authorized users of the facility. Ensures that patrons comply with applicable ski patrol rules and standards. Maintains assigned area in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Assess and mitigate hazards and safety concerns within the ski area while maintaining ski area signs, ropes and padding. Ensures compliance with fire, safety and security standards. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
  • A one-year probationary period may be required.
  • Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
  • Must possess and maintain the following certifications: National Ski Patrol Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) certification or EMT or Paramedic or Equivalent AND CPR for the professional rescuer or equivalent.
  • Must be able to work predominantly outside in a variety of terrain and in hot, cold, wet, dry, windy and dusty conditions.
  • Must be able to work a regular or rotating schedule that may include weekdays, evening or nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be able to operate and use the various safety and other electronic and automated equipment involved in providing for the well-being of guests as well as the protection and safety of these guests, other employees and government property.
  • Must be able to complete the following courses within six months of employment: MWR Orientation; Customer Service.
  • In case of exposure to infectious disease, incumbent is required to obtain the Hepatitis B vaccination series within a 24 hour period.
  • Medical Examination is required.
  • This position is dual compensation exempt; All GS and NAF employees whether full time or part time are eligible to apply for this position.

Qualifications

Resumes must be two pages (or less). Resumes should clearly demonstrate the applicant's relevant experience, skills, knowledge and abilities as they pertain to this position.

A qualified candidate must possess the following:
1. Must be able to ski/snowboard at an advanced level to perform a mountain rescue and transport on the most difficult terrain.
2. Must have experience that demonstrates a comprehensive practical knowledge of all facets of ski patrolling.
3. Must possess good written and verbal communication skills.
4. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

The above experience must be reflected on your resume to be considered eligible for this position.

In addition to the above qualifications, candidates who possess the following qualifications will be considered "Highly Preferred" or "Best Qualified":

1. Possession of, and ability to maintain a First Aid certification from the American Red Cross or other nationally recognized equivalent.

Proof of certification will be required prior to appointment.

Applicants meeting the Highly Preferred criteria will be referred first to the Selecting Official. All other applicants will be referred for consideration if the certificate (referral list) is returned with no selection.

Initial Cut-Off Date: Monday, October 20, 2025 (Applications must be received by 11:59 PM EST). Allowances and Differential
  • This job is part of a pay-banded system. Sunday premium pay for regularly scheduled employees and night differential pay may be authorized by the Garrison Commander.
  • Non-foreign overseas allowances, cost of living (COLA), and differentials will not be paid, contingent upon eligibility.
