Summary

The Finger Lakes VA Healthcare System has 1 vacancy for a Supervisory Health Systems Specialist in the Canandaigua VA in Credentialing and Privileging. Oversees all functions related to healthcare providers' professional credentials supporting all divisions of the VAMC. Ensures quality assurance and provides oversight for the VAMC C&P program and ensures that the Medical Staff Bylaws/Rules and Regulations are reviewed and updated annually to reflect regulations or accreditation standards.

Help

Major duties include, but may not be limited to:

  • Providing direct technical and administrative supervision to employees.
  • Responsible for ensuring that employees are efficiently and effectively accomplishing quality work that is compliant with regulatory requirements and procedures, TJC standards, laws, and VHA C&P policies and requirements, as well as assuring implementation and accomplishment of the goals and objectives of the C&P Program.
  • Identifying and presenting to leadership the resources necessary for accomplishing the mission and function of the facility's C&P program.
  • Providing guidance to local leadership and C&P employees on all matters pertaining to the facility's C&P program.
  • Attending committee meetings and presents providers' credentials, clinical practice histories and red flags.
  • Serving as the primary consultant for the facility's C&P program; analyzes program audit results; interprets facility quarterly report card data; researches provider credentialing requirements; and identifies potential privileging issues.
  • Coordinating with Service Chiefs and service level administrative teams for annual Committee(s) review of clinical privileges and scope of practice.
  • Serving as the Point of Contact (POC) and SME (Subject Matter Expert) for credentialing updates,
  • Human Resources, providers and hiring services.
  • Monitoring and auditing the VAMC C&P program utilizing VetPro reports, mandatory auditing and reporting tools.
  • Ensuring national level reporting requirements are accurately completed including, but not limited to, quarterly security reports, quarterly accuracy certification of the Our Provider's website, and accuracy of the VA/DoD shared provider registry.
  • Monitoring C&P program resources to ensure programs are appropriately staffed.
  • Serving as a liaison and partner with Human Resources Service programs for common program goals and issues including, but not limited to, provider onboarding, provider exit reviews and assessments, privileging actions, and guidance related to clinical performance concerns.
  • Responsible for ensuring quality assurance in the facility's C&P program; applying organizational and system-wide strategies for continuous quality improvement as they relate to C&P processes and procedures.
  • serves as the administrator for the National Practitioner Data Bank, Federation of Medical Boards, and Our Providers Database.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/10/2025.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-12 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-11. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

You may qualify based on your experience described below:

  • Specialized Experience GS-12: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes but is not limited to: Comprehensive knowledge of the VetPro software and functionality. Comprehensive knowledge of the principles, provisions and practices of credentialing and accreditation and regulatory agencies. Expert knowledge of the characteristics of credentialing/privileging and groups adverse events, hearing and appeals committee actions and legal requirements. Extensive knowledge of medical specialties, medical terminology, and design and implementation of best practices for criteria based privileging systems for granting of clinical privileges. Comprehensive knowledge of VetPro policies including but not limited to: VetPro Data Integrity, current Appointments and Sharing files, etc. Extensive skill in research of data, policies, legal issues involving actions of such nature that results in the potential for reporting to the National Practitioner Data Bank. Extensive skill in the use of data and studies to be incorporated into program directives covering new and innovative conceptual approaches and methods. Broad knowledge of government-wide, agency, and facility systems in the area of credentialing/ privileging to recognize problems/issues and make recommendations to appropriate offices.
Physical Requirements: The work is mostly sedentary. Occasionally, light physical effort may be required, such as that involved with walking, stair climbing, and carrying of light office items.

Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
