This position is a Regular Part Time. Regular-part time positions are guaranteed 20 hours but may work up to 40 hours per week and are entitled to benefits such as health, life insurance, 401k, and retirement.

Duties

Help

Plans, schedules, organizes, promotes, and implements a variety of outdoor activities. Serves a participant community representative of active duty, retired military, reserve force, authorized civilian employees, and their dependents. Researches, gathers, and provides information on a variety of leisure activities in the military and civilian communities such as special events, festivals, bus and train schedules, lodging and camping information, and other information that is of a leisure interest to the personnel served. Develops programs which will meet participants interests and needs of team and individual activities. Research, plans, and recommends changes to existing programs and options that are cost effective and assures program emphasis that reflect activities most appropriate to the interests of the service population. Such activities include but are not limited to hiking, biking, canoeing, camping, trips, archery/skeet shooting, parks, ranges, mountain climbing and overnight recreational trips. Demonstrates techniques and instructs participants in the use of equipment. Coordinates with installation, county, state officials, and private entities regarding adherence to legal and safety protocols and applicable licensing.

Ensures equipment stock supports the interests and needs of the population served. Maintains accurate records of inventory items, tickets, tools, supplies, and equipment. Plans and schedules assigned vehicle and equipment to support the needs of the Outdoor Recreation Program. Assists in implementing the safety program for maintenance, vehicle operations and inspections for assigned non-appropriated fund vehicles.

Serves as a Recharge for Resiliency (R4R) installation point of contact. Works with R4R target audiences, requests funds, purchase event/program items, manage costs, and complete expense lines. Track funding requests from submission to approval and complete After-Action Report (AAR) reflecting event participation and event/program execution details.


Assists with the preparation, development, and administration of the annual R4R operating budget. Performs day-to-day budget management actions such as tracking funds distribution, reconciling commitment/obligation, and reallocating assigned program funds. Reviews budgetary transactions for compliance with policies/procedures and ensures funds are available. Manages expenses and monitors and reconciles current estimates with ongoing expenditures. Assists in the development and maintenance of a responsible internal control program(s), protects assets, evaluates financial operations, and makes recommendations for improvements.

Works directly with Marketing to promote and publicize outdoor recreation programs. Determines ways to improve, add, and implement new programs, procedures, and activities to meet the expressed desires of the customers. Evaluate services determined by market research to measure program effectiveness and provides feedback and recommends improvements to manager and leadership.

  • Must be able to work other than normal duty hours which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.

  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.

Qualifying Experience:
Experience that provided a knowledge of the goals, principles, methods, and techniques of recreation, and an understanding of the interests of individuals or groups.

Specialized experience: experience that demonstrated the ability to apply the principles of one or more specialty areas of recreation. Qualifying specialized experience includes planning, organizing, coordinating, supervising, or evaluating recreational programs/recreational curriculum; instructing in the principles/techniques of recreational program planning and management.

Education: Possess an undergraduate (associate or bachelor's degree) or graduate (Masters' degree) in general recreation, or one of the appropriate fields of recreation such as outdoor recreation and parks; recreation management; youth, public, urban or community recreation or physical education.

In addition, possess strong organization and planning skills. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Must be able to lift and carry up to 45 lbs.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
