Duties

Help
  • Prepares a variety of foods and desserts according to menu requirements and apportions foods for family style servings as well as for plate service.
  • Follows health and safety precautions to ensure safe preparation, handling and storage of food items.
  • Plans, coordinates, times assignments to assure that food items are prepared at a correct temperature and on time.
  • Assists in training lower grade cooks or kitchen help and provides advice on how to improve their work methods.
  • Operates kitchen equipment designed to mix, cook food; cleans and maintains kitchen equipment, utensils and work area.

  • Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
  • A one-year probationary period may be required.
  • Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
  • Incumbent may be required to complete a Tier 1 background investigation for a Common Access Card for physical access to federally-controlled facilities.
  • Satisfactory completion of a minimum of 4 hours initial food sanitation and safety training is required within 30 days of employment and a minimum of 4 hours refresher training annually.
  • Must be able to work an Irregular Schedule to include night, weekends and Holidays
  • Selected applicant must be able to pass a Medical Physical Examination.
  • Knowledge of food borne illnesses, food safety, and proper storage methods for hot and cold food items in order to prevent loss or illness due to spoilage.
  • Must be able to lift or move objects up to 40 pounds unassisted, and occasionally lift or move objects weighing over 40 pounds with the assistance of other workers or lifting devices.
  • Employee is exposed to steam, fumes, odors from cooking, and to extreme temperature changes when entering walk-in refrigerators or freezing units. Must stand on tile floor. Subject to burns, cuts, and slipping on wet floors.
  • Work involves continual standing and walking, frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Minimum of 6 months work experience directly related to the duties described above, that included skill in working with professional kitchen appliances and equipment.

Allowances and Differentials
  • This job falls under the Federal Wage Schedule (FWS) pay system. FWS employees earn overtime pay for working more than 8 hours in a day or more than 40 hours in a week -- whichever gives the employee more benefit. Regular full-time, regular part-time, and regularly scheduled flexible employees may receive Sunday premium pay for working on Sundays. Employees may also be eligible to receive extra pay if the majority of their scheduled hours falls after 3:00 PM.
Non-foreign overseas allowances, cost of living (COLA), and differentials will not be paid, contingent upon eligibility.
