WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING DAY TO DAY

As an Accountant , you will use your knowledge and experience to optimize business results and customer experience by:

  • Managing and executing accounting operations for a range of federal clients, leveraging automated and manual processes to ensure accurate financial data recording, reconciliation and reporting.
  • Exercising independent judgement in performing complex accounting tasks, including the preparation, validation and reconciliation of financial transaction within enterprise-wide systems such as Oracle Federal Financials (PRICES), SAP (UFMS), FBIS, G-Invoicing, etc.
  • Performing advanced analysis on financial data, reviews journal vouchers, analyzes trial balances and supports Fund Balance with Treasury (FBWT) initiatives.
  • Developing and implementing accounting solutions to remediate system errors, standardize business processes, and respond to evolving agency priorities.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

You must possess the Basic Requirement and Specialized Experience Requirement below to be qualified for this position.

Basic Requirement: You must possess one of the items listed below (A or B).

A. A degree in Accounting or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting (which may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law).

OR

B. A combination of education and experience with at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge.
My background also includes one of the following:
(1) 24 semester hours in accounting or auditing courses of appropriate type and quality--including up to 6 hours of business law
(2) a certificate as Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Internal Auditor, obtained through written examination
OR
(3) completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in accounting or auditing, but that does not fully satisfy the 24-semester-hour requirement, provided that (a) I have successfully worked at the full-performance level in accounting, auditing, or a related field; (b) a panel of at least two higher level professional accountants or auditors has determined that I have a good knowledge of accounting and of related and underlying fields that equals in breadth, depth, currency, and level of advancement that which is normally associated with successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in answer A; and (c) except for literal non-conformance to the requirement of 24 semester hours in accounting, my education, training, and experience fully meet the specified requirements.

Specialized Experience
Minimum Qualifications: You must have one year specialized experience to perform successfully the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service performing at least ALL of the following:

  • Applying professional accounting principles to analyze and reconcile financial transactions across multiple programs
  • Utilizing financial systems to record and report large-scale financial activities.
  • Implementing internal controls to ensure compliance with federal financial regulations.
  • Preparing and evaluating financial reports to assess accuracy and completeness.
  • Collaborating with auditors to support audit readiness.

Minimum Qualifications: You must have one year specialized experience to perform successfully the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service performing at least ALL of the following:
  • Executing complex financial operations across multiple programs to ensure accuracy, compliance, and accountability.
  • Advising senior leadership on financial management policies.
  • Improving financial processes to deliver accurate, timely, and compliant reporting.
  • Conducting financial analyses to evaluate performance and recommend corrective actions.
  • Preparing high-level financial reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Partnering with auditors to strengthen internal controls.
