Duties

Help
  • You will plan, schedule and direct arrangements for activities hosted by the Commander.
  • You will provide planning, direction, and oversight for all protocol matters related to ceremonies, VIP visits, conferences, official command functions, high level foreign and domestic visits, and special events.
  • You will remind the commander of appointments, obtains background information on subject matters, and presents information prior to scheduled calls, visitors, and meetings.
  • You will conduct planning with the commander and spouse to ensure all expectations are met for social functions, to include guest lists, seating diagrams, invitations, place cards, menu cards, catering details, and all other related requirements.
  • You will anticipate, research, and add necessary background information to correspondence requiring the COM's attention.
  • You will perform confidential studies and prepare reports to keep the COM advised on unusual conditions which may affect administration and operations of U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Europe and Africa.
  • You will independently make travel arrangements based on general information from the traveler and in accordance with appropriate travel regulations.

  • This position may require travel to places within and outside the contiguous United States which could include remote or isolated sites. You may be required to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • If eligible for permanent change of station, the appointee will be required to sign a transportation agreement to establish a Government time in service requirement of 12 months.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.
  • May be required to obtain a VISA dependent on the overseas country’s laws/regulations.
  • You will be required to sign the Statement of Understanding for Overseas Employment acknowledging receipt and understanding of the statement of living and working conditions for this location.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-09) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following duties:
1) Formulating plans of action and milestones for the accomplishment of tasks and to perform a number of concurrent tasks, setting project priorities and coordinating completion within required deadlines;
2) Providing official protocol principles and comprehensive DOD, DON, HQMC, and host nation guidance to plan and execute the Command Protocol Program;
3) Managing meetings, conferences, and briefings for a leadership team;
4) Coordinating events involving high-ranking military, civilians, and foreign national officials to ensure all expectations are met for social functions; and
5) Utilizing the Defense Travel System to coordinate travel and liquidate travel claims.

Education

The following education is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement:

Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree

or

3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree

LL.M., if related

Military Spouse Preference applicants will be placed at the highest grade for which they have applied and are determined Best Qualified (BQ). Physical Demands: The work is primarily sedentary. No special physical demands are required.

Work Environment: Work involves normal risks and discomforts associated with an office environment. The work area is adequately lighted and heated. May require occasional local travel or off-site work location.

Priority consideration will be given to military spouse preference and family member preference eligible residing in the commute area of the duty location for this position. Commute area is defined as the geographic area surrounding the duty location in which people can reasonably be expected to travel back and forth daily.
