Duties

Help

Responsible for the overall management, maintenance, and aesthetic quality of landscaped grounds, lawns, turf areas, irrigation systems, and related outdoor facilities. Oversees the selection, installation, and care of turfgrass, trees, shrubs, and other plant materials based on soil conditions, climate, and seasonal factors. Manages proper irrigation practices and ensures optimal performance of irrigation systems, determining appropriate watering schedules for turf and landscaped areas.

Directs the application of fertilizers, soil amendments, and pest control products. Regularly collects and analyzes soil samples to determine nutrient needs and health conditions. Responsible for the safe handling, application (spraying), and storage of pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations related to environmental and hazardous materials safety. Required to have a NC Pesticide License.

Coordinates with external consultants, contractors, and vendors for site assessments, technical guidance, and specialized services as needed. Participates in planning, design, and renovation of landscaped areas, including recommending and implementing improvements to turf areas, irrigation systems, planting beds, and site features.

Manages daily operations and supervises grounds maintenance staff. Responsibilities include hiring, training, scheduling, approving leave, conducting performance evaluations, addressing personnel issues, and implementing corrective actions when necessary.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to identify and manage turfgrass diseases, insect infestations, and other environmental stressors, and to apply appropriate treatments including fungicides, pesticides, and herbicides.
  • Skilled in calibrating and operating irrigation and chemical application equipment.
  • Strong background in horticulture, turf management, agronomy, or a related field, through education or extensive practical experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in landscape planning, turf maintenance, and grounds beautification techniques.
  • Must possess or obtain within one-year appropriate certifications for pesticide application in accordance with local regulations.
  • Proven leadership and supervisory experience, including the ability to motivate, direct, and evaluate staff.
