Duties

Help
  • Independently performs appraisals of real property for project studies, land acquisition and property management purposes.
  • Properties appraised may be vacant or improved and include total acquisitions or partial takings which could result in severance damages or benefits to the remainders.
  • Estimates of value are derived employing any of the three approaches to value as applicable.
  • Performs technical review of appraisal reports and cost estimates prepared by staff and contract appraisers for project studies, realty interest acquisition, condemnation proceedings and property management.
  • The review appraiser has the authority to request originating appraisers to correct technical errors in appraisal reports and has the authority to approve or disapprove the estimate of value.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Reviewing appraisal reports and cost estimates to ensure compliance with standards. Performing appraisals for various types of properties including highly developed industrial, commercial, or residential sites, as well as agricultural, woodlands, wetlands, and special use properties.

Selection Placement Factor:This position requires the possession of a current State Certified General Appraiser certification. (You must attach a copy of your certification).

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-11.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
