Help

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Handles soiled linen bags on a daily basis and is required to lift and deposit bags into a soiled linen cart.
  • Uses of proper lifting techniques are required.
  • Delivers soiled linen using linen carts to designated locations in accordance with established procedures.
  • Dresses in appropriate protective attire when in contact with soiled linen in accordance with established infection control policy and procedures.
  • Receives and weighs clean linen delivered from laundry as well as weighing outgoing soiled linen and assists the driver in loading and unloading of the truck.
  • Transports linen carts by hand and by motorized tugs safely and in accordance with established procedures.
  • Follows established safety rules and infection control guidelines.
  • Builds linen delivery carts on a daily basis for DVAMC; for its wards, clinics, and satellite facilities etc. according to established PAR level numbers policies and procedures.
  • Folds linen on a daily basis to fill linen carts for daily delivery and shelf back stock. Incumbent rebuilds carts for next day business.
  • Makes daily routine deliveries according to procedures and frequencies so that all areas receive quotas as set.
  • Ensures clean linen is covered at all times during delivery.
  • Cleans and maintains linen room, clean linen storage areas, and equipment.
  • In maintaining area of responsibility, operates commercial or industrial housekeeping equipment, such as vacuum cleaners, floor scrubbers etc., safely and according to directions and procedures without injury or damage due to employee negligence.
  • Issues employee uniforms and maintains individual government property issue cards as well as receives uniforms of outgoing employees to include annotating employee cards in accordance with policy and procedure.
  • Receives incoming supplies that are boxed and or palletized.
  • Processes orders into inventory or places into storage.
  • Operates hand trucks and pallet jacks.
  • Uses appropriate lifting and safety procedures.
  • Responsible for processing salvage linen items and maintaining records for the Linen Room Supervisor a cursory knowledge of linen properties must be developed.
  • Responsible for record keeping, statistical compilation, report processing. Produces daily reports for Linen Room Supervisor such as Quality Assurance, Linen Tare, Salvage, Annual Inventory, Par, and uniform issue etc. These reports are prepared and presented via hardcopy as well as computer programs such as WORD and EXCEL. Using mathematical, computer, and writing skills will figure into the preparation and complexity of the reports.
  • Required to compile data and enter data into a variety of proprietary computer programs for example IPA Scrub X and the Electronic Government Property Issue template

Physical Requirements: Incumbent is required to frequently maneuver heavy carts, stand for long periods of time, bend, stoop, and stand/walk continuously on cement surfaces. Some heavy lifting may be required of up to 25-30 pounds.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. The first year of service of an employee who is given a career or career-conditional appointment in the competitive service under the Civil Service Regulations is a probationary period unless specifically exempted by the appointing authority.

The first year of continuous service in the same or similar position of a preference eligible in the excepted service is a trial period. The first 2 years of continuous service in the same or similar position of an individual in the excepted service (other than a preference eligible), is a trial period.

At least 60 days prior to the end of each employee's initial probationary or trial period, management officials shall, to the extent practicable, meet to discuss the employee's performance and conduct (based in part on input from the employee's supervisor), the needs of the agency, and whether their continued employment would advance the public interest, the organizational goals of the agency, and the efficiency of the service.

Within 30 days prior to the end of each employee's probationary or trial period, management officials shall determine whether to finalize the employee's appointment to the Federal service, or whether to terminate their service. Before the employee is terminated, they shall be notified in writing of the effective date of the action.

Participation in the seasonal influenza program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). It is a requirement that all HCP to receive annual seasonal influenza vaccination or obtain an exemption for medical or religious reasons. Wearing a face mask is required when an exemption to the influenza vaccination has been granted. HCP in violation of this directive may face disciplinary action up to and including removal from federal service. HCP are individuals who, during the influenza season, work in VHA locations or who come into contact with VA patients or other HCP as part of their duties.
