Summary

This position is located in the Office Services Branch of the Administrative Services Division. This branch is responsible for the receipt, pick up, sorting, distribution, and mailing of all papers received and sent out by judges and employees of the Courts.

While the DC Courts has a telework policy, eligibility is determined by the respective division where the position is situated within the agency.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: 

  • Daily pick-up, opening, sorting, and routing of mail in the District of Columbia Courts' system.
  • Maintaining and submitting route trip records to the Mailroom Supervisor.
  • Assisting in the reproduction section, i.e. sorting, collating, and xeroxing of various Court documents, as needed.
  • At times will be required to be outside and will be exposed to prevailing weather conditions.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, and be able to endure prolonged standing and walking.

  • Background and security investigation are required.
  • A probationary period of one (1) year must be successfully completed.
  • This position requires driving.
  • Posses and maintain a valid state Driver's License in the United States

The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles. A copy of your Motor Vehicle Operator's permit/license must be submitted prior to appointment.

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and be able to endure prolonged standing and walking.   

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A high school diploma or General Equivalence Diploma (GED) plus (1) year of clerical experience. Previous mail handling experience and knowledge of computer software such as Windows-based word-processing software and Excel spreadsheets is preferred.

Must possess and maintain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's permit/license. 

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and be able to endure prolonged standing and walking.   

Please note that authorization for the release of your adult criminal record, revealing any convictions and forfeitures, and any criminal cases currently pending before the courts is required.  If you are selected for the position, a criminal history records check will be conducted.
