As a Supervisory Physical Scientist at the GS-1301-15 some of your typical work assignments may include:

  • Serves as the Chief, Technical Reachback Division.
  • Supervises a staff of professional civilians and military members, supported by contractors, in providing 24/7 chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosives (CBRNE) technical and scientific expertise and analysis.
  • Demonstrates a broad mastery in the technical aspects of delivering WMD analysis in support of all levels of combating the effects of WMD.
  • Provides scientific advice to all echelons in the Agency management, combatant commands and Joint Staff on the technical aspects of CBRNE and potential impacts to operations, to include counter measures, protection and decontamination.
  • Attends meetings and conferences concerning scientific aspects of CBRNE, to include modeling and simulation, phenomenology, system response and protection.
  • Serves as the point of contact for requests and/or guidance regarding WMD analysis and CBRNE modeling and simulation.
  • Develops and manages science and technology (S&T) program budgets.
  • Leads the provision of decision support to warfighters, putting technical analysis directly into operational context through liaison between users and technology developers.
  • Evaluates requirements for additional resources and balances organization needs with overall mission requirements and resource interests.
  • Identifies need for change in organization priorities and takes action to implement such changes.

  • Telework Eligibility: This position is an in-person position at facilities located at Ft. Belvoir, VA. This position may be eligible for limited, situational telework subject to supervisory approval and not to exceed current Agency guidelines.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI (Top Secret/SCI access) clearance.
  • Must consent to and pass pre-employment drug testing and be subject to periodic random drug testing thereafter.
  • Travel is required up to 25% of the time, CONUS/OCONUS, to include weekend travel, weekend layovers during travel, and long hours while in travel status.
  • The employee must be willing to comply with each Combatant Command (COCOM) travel medical requirement to include vaccinations.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid passport.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-15, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service:

  • Providing chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear (CBRN) subject matter expertise with the use of software to model CBRN hazards.
  • Performing or overseeing analysis to support contingency planning or emergency response or leading scientific research to address gaps in understanding of CBRN threats/effects and the ability to model them.
  • Managing a multi-million-dollar research program, including practical experience with programming, planning, budgeting, executing, and leading interagency coordination of program activities/modeling support.
In addition to meeting qualifications, your application package must reflect the applicable experience to meet the Individual Occupational Requirements for the 1301 series.
  1. Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics;

    or

  2. Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
  3. *NOTE: Failure to provide transcripts will result in you being rated ineligible for this position.
