Duties

Help
  • Operate cranes during challenging operations where space is limited, and precise maneuverability is essential.
  • Operate crawler, truck, wagon, and rail-mounted boom cranes of different sizes for various operations.
  • Operate cranes to lift, transport, and position materials, dig and move earth or other materials, drive pilings, or destroy obsolete structures.
  • Operate cranes at different boom lengths, angles, and positions, making quick lifting capacity judgments during constant position changes.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position meets the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening and random testing.
  • Must possess a Class "B" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) upon appointment and retain it at own expense.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain within six months of appointment, a crane certification from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Crane Operator without more than normal supervision. Operate boom cranes outdoors with no major maneuverability or accuracy concerns, operate crane with standard boom lengths and safe load limits, and ensure load does not exceed lifting capacity. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • PHYSICAL EFFORT: Exerts heavy effort in pushing, pulling, and depressing the various levers, clutches, and brakes. Is subject to strain caused by vibrations of the crane, and from the jerking and jolting motions while lifting and moving loads. Occasionally moves objects weighing up to 50 pounds, e.g., lifting hooks and cables, changing rigging, setting outriggers, etc.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed outside during periods of extreme heat and cold from a cab generally open on one side for clear vision and ventilation, and in areas which are noisy, dirty, and subject to fumes, occasional disagreeable dust, and inadequate heating or cooling. There is the possibility of injury from swing loads, moving machinery, crane overturning, and breakage of cables.
