Summary

You will serve as a TECHNICIAN in the Energetics Manufacturing Department (M) of NAVSURFWARCEN IH DIV.

This position is part of the Warfare Centers Personnel Demonstration Project. The NT-02 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to GS-05/GS-08. The NT-03 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to GS-09/10. FPL NT-04 is equivalent to GS-11/12.

Duties

Help
  • You will perform engineering technician duties providing support of various production efforts.
  • You will assist with, primarily, the manufacture of liquid nitrate esters, energetic powders and other inert chemicals within the Energetic Chemicals Branch, Code M42.
  • You will assist engineers and technicians with recommendations of process improvements for the synthesis of energetic and inert chemicals.
  • You will assist engineers and technicians with diagnosing process issues and troubleshooting equipment issues.
  • You will perform reviews and assessments of engineering procedures, standard operating procedures, shop travelers and quality project plans in support of production operations.
  • You will provide material inventory levels to the production controller and advise on scheduling raw material deliveries.

  • You may be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You must be willing and able to lift and/or carry loads/items up to 50 pounds in weight.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Work is performed in an office environment as well as an energetic manufacturing plant/lab setting.

Qualifications

FOR NT-03: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower band, NT-02 (GS-05 through GS-08 equivalent) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: applying technical engineering procedures, reading, interpreting, or applying technical drawings, diagrams, or specifications to perform technical engineering work (e.g., safe handling and production of liquid nitrate esters, safe handling and production of acids and bases; design; quality; or adaptation of production systems and equipment) in support of manufacturing energetic chemicals, materials or related systems for an organization.

FOR NT-02: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower band, NT-01 (GS-01 through GS-04 equivalent) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: reading and interpreting technical drawings, diagrams, or specifications to assist technical engineering work (e.g., design; quality; or adaptation of production systems and equipment) for an organization.
