Duties

Help
  • Insures that needed plans, blueprints, material, and tools are available, and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations.
  • Passes on to other workers instructions received from supervisor, and starts work.
  • Checks work in progress and when finished, checks for compliance with supervisor's instructions of work sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines.
  • Works along with other workers, setting the pace, performing non-supervisory work of the same kind and level as that done by the group led.
  • Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks related to the operations and maintenance of physical plant facilities, project grounds, parks, wildlife areas and other public use facilities.
  • Works from blueprints and as built designs, to install, modify and repair structures throughout the project.
  • Performs journey level work in maintenance, plumbing, carpentry and equipment operation.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Work Leader without more than normal supervision. Experience that demonstrates the ability to lead a work team under less than normal supervision. I independently perform tasks in the areas of maintenance, plumbing, carpentry, heavy equipment operation and operating and maintaining pumping plants and irrigation system. I can work as part of a crew and
assume responsibility for leading in the accomplishment of tasks. I perform these tasks under general supervision subject to occasional inspection. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • PHYSICAL EFFORT: Exerts heavy physical effort in doing such tasks as frequently lifting and moving objects weighing 45 pounds unassisted, obtains assistance or uses appropriate equipment or safety devices when lifting and moving heavy objects greater than 45 pounds. Physical dexterity is needed to handle tools and work around machinery or equipment.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is generally performed outdoors in all extremes of weather, in and over water, in wildland vegetation, in flood control and building structures. Hazards include heat, cold, dust, insect bites and stings, injurious vegetation, electric shock, drowning, work around machinery and heavy equipment, noise, vibration, falls from ladders and high work surfaces, and toxic chemicals. Work requires heavy lifting, continuous standing, walking, or stooping in all extremes of weather, including under wet and muddy conditions on steep or uneven terrain. Work requires special care to avoid injuries.
