Duties

Help

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for Supervisory Legal Administrative Specialist in the United States Attorney's Office (USAO). Typical work assignments will include:

  • Performing overall supervision, coordination, and assignment of legal support staff to casework and for ensuring adequate coverage during pretrial, trial and post-trial stages;
  • Performing the full scope of supervisory responsibilities: assigning performance ratings, assessing individual skills and needs and recommending training, issuing awards, addressing employee conduct and performance issues as appropriate, approving/disapproving leave requests, and dealing effectively with employees on suggestions, complaints and grievances;
  • Providing a variety of legal assistance and technical work requiring a specialized knowledge of processes, procedures, and practices to support legal activities;
  • Performing tasks associated with the organization, preparation, delivery, and tracking of discovery in cases involving large volumes of documentary and/or digital evidence; and
  • Performing a variety of litigation support duties that involve communicating through visual means.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
  • If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
  • If selected, you will be subject to the satisfactory completion of a one year supervisory or managerial probationary period unless this requirement has been met previously.
  • Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.
  • You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements upon the closing date of this announcement and before placement in the position.

Qualifications

GS-12: To qualify for the GS-12, applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in Federal service as defined below:

Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is defined as experience working in a legal environment providing a variety of legal assistance and technical work requiring a specialized knowledge of processes, procedures, and practices to support legal activities. Examples of specialized experience may include:

  • assisting attorneys and legal support staff in organizing voluminous case information;
  • assisting attorneys in pretrial preparations (preparing, scheduling, reviewing, and organizing discovery; notifying, interviewing, and managing witnesses, and researching case law); and
  • mentoring and/or providing training to legal support staff.
