Summary

This position is located on one of three shifts in the West Point Mint, Office of Production, Plant Engineering Division. The position performs installation, maintenance, trouble analysis, rebuilding, overhauling, modifying, aligning and calibrating of integrated electronic equipment, electrical systems (computer, security and fire systems, data lines) and machinery used for numismatic coin production and packaging.

The following are the duties of this position at the WG-12. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties and will receive training to help you grow in this position.

  • Repair, perform trouble analysis, modify, calibrate, align, program and install new and existing complex systems, i.e. coin presses, burnishers, ultrasonic cleaners and other related equipment, security, fires systems, programmable computers and solid-state controls.
  • Rebuild, overhaul, modify, install, maintain and test new and existing complex production and electronic equipment/systems. Overhaul, rebuild, and maintain AC and DC electronic equipment, i.e., motors, generators, presses, motor control centers throughout the facility. Replace defective wiring (low voltage electronic, repairs relays, selectors, automatic equipment control circuits, and electronic control interlock systems. Install conduit, raceways, and new electrical and electronic equipment systems. Perform planned maintenance and recommends improvements to Preventive Maintenance schedule and job plans.
  • Evaluate circuitry interrelationships, interactions and interconnections of assemblies and systems. Trouble analyzes, rebuild and overhaul systems, modifying techniques and procedures to specified parameters. Adapt test procedures to test equipment and tests and aligns completed work.
  • Coordinate with technical and professional personnel on matters affecting operating specifications, development of new control systems and their modification.

  • Shift Work: This facility operates on a 24 hour per day, three-shift basis, 5 days a week. Work schedules may vary and assignment to a specific shift cannot be guaranteed. The successful applicant must be available to work on all three shifts on a rotational basis.
  • May be required to wear safety clothing and/or equipment required by the position. This may include safety shoes, hard hats, hearing protection, gloves, masks, etc.
