Duties

Help

Develops processes, researches, compiles, drafts and prepares for final publication educational materials for use in K-16 classrooms and informal learning spaces. Drafts original content that meets the content standards of the department, addresses the professional needs of K-16 educators, and requires minimal editorial intervention. Regularly edits drafts from multiple authors, integrates input from multiple editors, communicates with authors to share content standards and request revisions, and facilitates editorial processes for complex projects. Materials are prepared for a variety of print media and online formats, based on the material involved, intended audience, available technology, and objectives of the project. Supports professional learning product development by gathering information on current educator needs and practices, collecting and analyzing feedback from educators, and contributing to the planning of future learning products.

Plans, facilitates, and presents online and in person programming for educators, school and other librarians, and other professionals on behalf of the Library. Programming may occasionally include sessions for student groups. Events may include workshops, seminars, institutes, or other venues. Coordinates logistical arrangements for events, develops materials to publicize events and responds to inquiries about programs. Utilizes a variety of delivery strategies that reflect best practices and platforms to meet specific audience needs. Contributes expertise to agency-wide decisions related to strategies and platforms.

Provides support to the Teaching with Primary Sources Grant program, the Literacy Awards program, the affiliated Centers for the Book, and the Informal Learning Office on a variety of tasks, such as: conducting research, extracting and compiling information from reports; audience engagement and analysis; coordinating panel reviews, advisory boards and working groups; preparing materials for meetings with grantees, affiliates, and honorees; and, preparing correspondence and other written material and documentation. Reviews proposals for grants or contracts for completeness, soundness of education goals, and suitability, applying established program criteria. Provides information and explains procedures to grant applicants, potential contractors, panel reviewers, and advisory board members. Recommends approval or disapproval of applications, documents decisions and prepares information for grant or contract disapproval. Works with other PLOI, CLLE and Contracts and Grants Directorate (CGD) staff to support contracts and grants.

Maintains professional contacts within the Library, and with colleagues in the education and museum professions. Participates in education, library, or literacy conferences, representing PLOI and responding to questions about the Library and its outreach programs.

Identifies and recommends new and revised educational publications, programs, products initiatives, and delivery platforms, based on evaluation, audience feedback and other performance measures. Documents evaluations and
provides data and information for strategic planning and management decisions on programs to be undertaken, changed or discontinued. May recommend improvements in workflow and PLOI processes to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness in meeting goals and objectives

Qualifications

Applicants must have had progressively responsible experience and training sufficient in scope and quality to furnish them with an acceptable level of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position without more than normal supervision.

Knowledge of K-16 educational curriculum, practices, and standards.**

Ability to write K-16 educational materials, edit materials from multiple authors, and communicate in writing to support trainings, programs, and/or projects.**

Ability to apply new and emerging technologies to the development and delivery of educational projects and/or programs.**

Ability to perform outreach duties and services for programs and events.

Knowledge of events and programs-planning and execution.

Ability to communicate effectively other than in writing.

Additional information

Although it is the Library's policy to afford the maximum pay benefit to employees when setting rates of pay, a new appointee who has had no previous Federal service will generally be paid at step one of the grade.
