Duties

Help

The Project Manager manages and coordinates exhibition projects and other museum initiatives, administers policy, develops project documents, provides training and monitors projects within the Office of Project Management and Planning at the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

In this position, you will:

  • Deliver small to large projects on time, within budget and scope, and work with various stakeholders inside and outside of the museum.
  • Lead teams through all phases of development and move projects through completion.
  • Perform tasks such as draft Statements of Work (SOW) and Requests for Proposals (RFPs), review contractor bids, prepare documentation for purchase orders and contracts, and serve as COTR.
  • Facilitate tasks and coordinate with the project teams and leadership to ensure the availability of funds and materials.
  • Foster a collegial working environment through frequent and clear communication.
  • Coordinate and track image research and procurement, ensure proper use of SI licensing template and agreements, and maintain the database to ensure licensing completion.

Qualifications

Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal Service.  For this position, specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience working as a Project Manager for large scale and/or complex museum projects by setting goals, timelines and budgets; administering contracts; providing oversight of project contracts and contractors; and using negotiation skills to successfully solve problems to keep the project on track.   

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. Be sure to note the number of paid or unpaid hours worked each week.

Time-in-Grade Requirements: Under competitive merit promotion procedures, any individual who is currently holding, or who has held within the previous 52 weeks, a General Schedule position under a non-temporary appointment in the competitive or excepted service, must meet "time-in-grade" requirements (have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade of the grade for which you are applying).

  4. Skill in oral communication to work with people individually and in a team environment sufficient to motivate, resolve conflicts and keep the team focused.
  5. Knowledge of contractual language of licensing agreements.
