Duties

Help

As a MOTOR VEHICLE OPERATOR,WG-5703-7, you will:

  • Operates platform trucks, van trucks, dump trucks, stake trucks, fuel trucks or cargo vans, which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight (GVW) of more than 26,000 pounds and up to 32,000 pounds to transport personnel; pick up and deliver supplies, materials or equipment; and tow equipment to various locations and work sites. Incumbent operates passenger buses or passenger ambulance regardless of gross vehicle weight. These vehicles are usually equipped with air brakes. Vehicles are driven over public roads at highway speeds under all traffic and driving conditions.
  • Assures cargo is properly loaded, distributed and secured. Performs operator maintenance on vehicles.
  • Ensures shipping and accounting documents are with the shipment and reflect actual condition, quantities and type of material. Completes log books, maintenance records, reports, and other transportation documents for accurate accounting. May identify, inspect, and segregate equipment or material as it is received for obvious damage and needed repairs.
  • May perform warehouse work to include issuing receiving and inventorying equipment, supplies and materials; loading and unloading of trucks; storing and pulling warehouse stock; packing and unpacking material; and repairing or replacing items on equipment. May select storehouse locations within the general warehousing plan.
  • Operates electric, gasoline or diesel-powered forklift trucks.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 2-year trial period during which we will evaluate your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Selected Reserve Incentive Program (SRIP): Acceptance of a Federal Technician Position of over 179 days in length will cause termination from the SRIP.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position.

Qualifications

Military Grades: E-3 thru E- 5
Compatible Military Assignments:

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates the ability to operate one or more motor vehicles including pickup trucks, panel trucks, flatbed trucks, carryalls, sedans, crew cab pickup trucks, jeeps, and station wagons which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight up to 4,500 kilograms (10,000 pounds). Experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the simpler and routine duties of the trade.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates the ability to operate and perform operator maintenance on straight-in-line trucks which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight of more than 32,000 pounds. Experience demonstrating ability to operate truck tractors with semi-trailers or full trailers and motor coaches. Experience operating vehicles over a variety of roads including interstate highways, narrow country roads, and on steep winding grades. Experience driving vehicles without mishap in complicated traffic situations.
