Duties

Help

As a POWERED SUPPORT SYSTEMS MECHANIC-TITLE 32, WG-5378-10, you will perform inspections and off-equipment maintenance on aircraft arresting systems. Accomplish gasoline engine rebuilding. Check and adjust valves, bearings, cams, bushings, gear boxes, sprockets, chains, and fairlead beam components. May do stripping, sanding, and painting of aircraft arresting systems. Solve repair or maintenance problems using technical drawings, wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, and technical orders. Replace nylon tapes and steel wound cables due to wear, time change, or excessive aircraft engagement. Perform maintenance on the BAK-14 aircraft arresting system. Coordinate aircraft arresting systems duties. Schedule and coordinate exercises to practice rewind procedures, operations, and annual certification engagements. Train guardsmen in the operation and maintenance of aircraft arresting systems. Maintain records for documentation of preventive maintenance, repairs, tape and cable life, and all aircraft engagements. Establish and control benchstock, spare parts, and supplies. Prepare for and participates in readiness evaluations and command support exercises. Install, repair, maintain, and modify electrical power production equipment. Perform repair of components. Conduct tests of equipment. Maintain and repair electrical generating equipment. Perform inspection, maintenance, and major modifications. Troubleshoot repair situations and perform maintenance on electric power generating equipment. Inspect electrical power production equipment. Analyze malfunctions by inspection, observation of operation and use of test equipment. Advise on technical problems of installation and repair of electrical power production equipment. Plan and schedule work assignments. Assure compliance with published directives, work standards and technical publications. Operate standby units during power failures and perform operational checks, inspections, services, and make emergency repairs. Assist electrician and power line personnel in installation, trouble shooting and repair. Perform other duties as assigned.

RANK REQUIREMENT:

This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENT:
Experience which demonstrates the knowledge of mechanical maintenance work. Experience using equipment and hand tools to troubleshoot, test and repair equipment.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Must have at least 18 months experience removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing parts, components, and accessories. Experience which provided working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic theory applying to powered support equipment and systems; and skill to replace, fit, install, and make adjustments. Experience which provided working knowledge of the makeup and operation of the various individual systems maintained and their interrelationships. Experience reading and interpreting parts lists, manufactures' repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
