Duties

Help
  • Perform fire prevention and inspection duties designed to detect and reduce or eliminate fire hazards.
  • Assign work based on priorities and requirements to maximize organizational effectiveness.
  • Prevent potential incidents through inspections of buildings or fire equipment and systems.
  • Provide direct patient care including first aid to sick, injured, distressed, convalescent or deceased individuals.

  • TDY up to 5% may be required.
  • This position requires the completion of pre-employment and periodic subsequent medical examination in accordance with DoDM 6055.06 to ensure continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 45 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted. Pre-employment and random testing is required.
  • This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis; Work schedule of 72 hours per week/ 144 hours per pay period.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • Must obtain and maintain a secret clearance.
  • Incumbent must meet all training requirements in accordance with applicable guidelines.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes the following: (1) Fighting fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade; (2) Identifying potential hazards to prevent fires or accidents; (3) Providing life saving medical care to sick or injured persons; and (4) Giving instructions or guidance to others to accomplishing work. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

In addition to the specialized experience above, to be eligible for this position you must possess the following certifications certified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board):

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).

*If you are applying for a higher grade and your SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you meet the one year time-in-grade requirement so you will need to provide an SF-50 which clearly demonstrates you meet the time-in-grade requirements (examples of appropriate SF-50s include Promotions, Within-grade Grade/Range Increases, and SF-50s with an effective date more than one year old).

  • About the position: This position is with the Joint Munitions Command located at Blue Grass Army Depot. This position serves as Lead Firefighter directing firefighters in the inspection, prevention, response, containment and extinguishing of hazards or fires.
  • Position may be filled as a time-limited promotion, reassignment or change to lower grade not to exceed (NTE) 1 year by a current permanent Army employee. Time-limited promotions may be extended up to a maximum of five years. Time-limited reassignments and changes to lower grade may exceed five years, however return rights may be impacted. Position may be made permanent without further competition.
