Duties

Help
  • Cleaning food service equipment such as chillers, deep fat fryers, food processors, ovens, slicers, steamer, tilt skillets in accordance with housekeeping instructions.
  • Storing food items in accordance with inventory and sanitation requirements.
  • Checking winches, capstans and small cranes' rigging as instructed.
  • Operating industrial appliances such as dishwasher, washing machine and dryers in accordance with operating manual to use industrial appliances.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Shipkeeper without more than normal supervision which includes handling lines in making and breaking tows; securing, fastening, hooking, and unhooking floating plant; operating and/or utilizing deck equipment such as small tow-line winch, capstans, winch-counted timber heads, and ratchets in tightening and securing lines and floating plant; deck equipment repair; general maintenance; and cleaning, operating, and breaking down industrial appliances, inspecting for fire hazards, and monitoring equipment for safety and security. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • PHYSICAL EFFORTS: Assignments require moderate physical effort frequently requiring walking, climbing, working in cramped and tiring positions and lifting and carrying items weighing over 40 pounds. Moderate physical effort is frequently required in handling objects weighing up to 20 pounds and the occasional handling of objects weighing over 40 pounds while loading and unloading cargo
  • WORKING CONDITIONS: Assignments require, working on steel docks of barges, towboats, and dredges where the incumbent is exposed to all types of weather conditions, temperature extremes, potential of falling overboard and drowning, and potential of bruises and broken bones when working in industrial type operations.
