Help
  • Coordinates and Assigns subordinate’s workload with other Facilities Divisions, Supervisors and the Engineering and Industrial Automation Department to complete production, new construction, and renovation projects in a timely fashion.
  • Monitors the workflow to ensure that all sections are meeting maintenance and repair timelines and redirects individual personnel throughout the day to prevent delays
  • Enforces appropriate conduct, safety, and other GPO rules and regulations. Applies Equal Employment Opportunity rules, regulations, and affirmative action principals.
  • Studies blueprints and confers with Engineers to determine work involved, suggesting changes if needed.
  • Operates a personal computer (PC) to retrieve and generate data related to production, material costs and labor hours.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following Screen-Out element, JOB ELEMENT #73 the Ability to Lead or Supervise the work of others as a Facilities Craft Supervisor to be considered for this position. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element , which usually appears as question 1 in the online questionnaire. If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT ELEMENT is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration.

Applicants must have experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to independently perform the duties typically required of a Facilities Craft Supervisor, KP-4607-00 to be considered for this position.
These duties include: (1) Adhering to work priorities, project schedules, resources, and detailed work plans established by higher level supervisors; AND (2) Assigning work to individuals while tracking and reporting progress on work assignments and requesting authority to adjust worker assignments and to use overtime, equipment, or materials to meet schedules; AND (3) Leading and overseeing employees engaged in all phases of carpentry, masonry and painting work within the Carpentry Branch.

AND

In addition to the requirements above, GPO employees competing under merit promotion procedures must meet all of the following criteria in accordance with Federal Merit Promotion Plan, GPO Instruction 615.2C (Appendix A): 1. Have completed a formal, recognized apprenticeship or GPO journeyperson training program, or possess substantially equivalent practical experience in the trade of the vacancy; AND 2. Have at least 1 year of journeyperson experience subsequent to completion of the above apprenticeship or training; AND
3. Have served a minimum of 1 year in Career or Career-Conditional appointment.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement to be considered.

There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position.

Work Life Balance:
The GPO offers Transit subsidy for commuters using public transportation (Metro Bus/Rail, MARC, VRE, etc.).

Background Investigation:
To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully completed a background investigation for a suitability clearance. This review could include financial issues such as delinquency in the payment of debts, child support and/or tax obligations, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs. Depending on the type of background investigation required, the security process may take between 6 weeks to 12 months.

The agency may rescind the tentative offer, if the candidate is unable to obtain an interim clearance.
