Duties

Help

  • Conducts investigations of crimes and complaints covering a wide range of subjects and allegations that are not within the scope of Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI).
  • Serves as liaison to, coordinates with, and assists other investigating agencies to include local, federal, and military on issues concerning investigations affecting the base.
  • Adheres to established guidelines for receiving and securing evidential and acquired property by SFS shift personnel ensuring compliance with applicable policies, regulations, directives, etc.
  • Provides advisory services to other staff offices, managers, supervisors, and employees concerning the security forces investigation program and processes.

  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of the position.
  • Incumbent must be qualified in the use of required weapons. The work may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle and an appropriate, valid driver’s license will be required.

EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least 3 yrs general, 1 year (52 weeks) at next lower broadband NH-01, equivalent to the next lower grade GS-4 or equivalent in other pay systems. General Experience is described as experience demonstrating the ability to: acquire and use knowledge of the basic principles, concepts, policies, practices, and methods of security administration; perform elementary developmental and procedural functions; assist other security specialists and/or perform highly structured, independent assignments such as: 1)Reviewing requests for personnel or facility security clearances to assure that all required information is provided, requesting missing information from the originators, and granting clearances when derogatory information is absent2) Reviewing reports of personnel investigations to identify the presence or absence of derogatory information and, with more experienced specialists, reviewing the impact of various kinds of derogatory information on the granting, denying, or revoking of security clearances. 3) Assisting experienced specialists in conducting onsite physical or industrial security inspections or assistance visits and assisting in the evaluation of findings and development of recommendations for changes. Or 4) Reviewing requests for information security guidance or assistance, identifying the nature of issues involved, and researching guidelines to identify the general policies and procedures that apply to their solutions. NOTE: Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

  1. Knowledge of investigative concepts, principles, policies, procedures, methods, and techniques to detect, investigate, and resolve crimes, complaints, and allegations of violations of compliance with federal security laws, regulations, or other mandatory guidelines.
  2. Knowledge of security forces concepts, policies, directives, requirements, procedures, technology, methods, and techniques.
  3. Knowledge of custodial practices, procedures, and requirements for identifying, storing, and accounting for evidence.
  4. Knowledge of military, state and federal laws and precedents concerning admissibility of evidence; search and seizure; rights of military and civilian suspects; access to information (e.g., the Freedom of Information and Privacy Acts); etc., especially as these relate to security forces functions.
  5. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures.
  6. Skill in planning and conducting proactive and reactive investigations, fact-finding interviews, and full investigations.
  7. Skill in producing finished intelligence reports and other products that are responsive to the specific needs of customers to include formulating and conducting original research; collating, organizing, and analyzing information; resolving conflicts; and presenting clear and concise findings.
  8. Ability to quickly assimilate disparate data and render knowledgeable and accurate assessments of the implications of such data; and to apply facts and estimates derived from numerous sources to a variety of problems having different technical aspects.
  9. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
