  • Provides therapeutic services based on comprehensive treatment plans that outline the therapeutic goals, methods, and modality to meet the individualized treatment needs of each patient. Periodically evaluates the overall effectiveness of therapeutic efforts and modifies treatment to increase the effectiveness of therapeutic treatment and facilitate recovery of health and stability.Provides therapeutic services based on comprehensive treatment plans that outline the therapeutic goals, methods, and modality to meet the individualized treatment needs of each patient. Periodically evaluates the overall effectiveness of therapeutic efforts and modifies treatment to increase the effectiveness of therapeutic treatment and facilitate recovery of health and stability.
  • Provides emergency on-call crisis intervention to assist and serve as a consultant to the medical staff in dealing with patients who may be at risk of harm to themselves or others. On-call intervention may require reporting to the Emergency Department (ED) or hospital ward during after-hours to assess suicidal, homicidal, and psychotic patients, facilitate psychiatric hospitalization, and safety planning.
  • Clinical Social Worker will provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and social work services while keeping with requirements of the I.H.S. program, state licensure laws and regulations, and the social work and other appropriate accreditation and certification bodies.
  • Incorporates professional application of social work principles, methods, and techniques including case management, resource linkage, and consultation to assist individuals, families, and group enhance or restore their ability to function physically, socially, emotionally, mentally, and economically.

Measles, Rubella, and seasonal influenza immunization required for selectees born after 1957 and seasonal influenza immunization is required for all staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities. Vaccine exemption requests may be available according to the National and/or Service Unit guidance.

The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements. If privileges are not obtained or maintained during employment, the employee will be subject to adverse actions, up to and including removal from Federal service.

Background Investigation: If you are selected for this vacancy, you must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint check and background investigation. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Degree: social work. Must fulfill all of the requirements for the master's degree in social work in a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
Master's degree with practicum: Applicants who complete all of the requirements for a master's degree in social work that included a practicum are eligible for GS-9.

In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:

GS-11: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 grade level
OR three (3) years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph. D. degree or Ph. D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: insure that all new admissions and discharge planning in compliance with hospital or clinic accreditation entities and policies, rules, and regulations. Insure appropriate intervention for patients and families who are experiencing difficulties dealing with life changes precipitated by change in health status. Assess and developing plans for and refers victims of abuse as appropriate. Working with high risk patient situations such as suicidal behavior, alcohol and drug abuse, domestic violence, depression, reactions to medical conditions etc... Provide direct patient care including crisis intervention that addresses relationship to illness, promotion of wellness, addressing the needs of the patients or families.

Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).

Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave.

This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit.
