Duties

Help
  • Serve as the point of contact for logistical zone operations, supervising personnel performing work in housing management, maintenance, material handling, warehousing, laboring, and food service.
  • Integrate, coordinate, and analyze logistical requirements needed to support fire suppression and emergency related events.
  • Facilitate the activation and deactivation of the zone facilities, including administrative and dispatch offices, warehouse, dining facility, barracks, and storage areas
  • Provide oversight of the logistics program for Galena Fire Management Zone; Coordinate with zone sections to ensure proper inspections are met; fuel shop, kitchen, barracks etc.
  • Coordinate with local government, suppliers and contractors for various tasks to ensure requirements are met.

Qualifications

You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes experience managing logistical or operational control of resources associated with wildland fire operations.

Education: Successfully completed 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading towards a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or LL.M in Business, Forestry or Logistics.

Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.

Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level.

There are no qualification requirements for a detail assignment. However employees must meet any positive education/licensure requirements in order to be detailed to positions with these requirements. Detail assignments do not include additional compensation and the selectee will not earn time-in-grade at the higher grade level.

Physical Demands: Will be required to perform some manual labor and basic facility maintenance. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Incident assignments require some hiking over rough terrain.
Work Environment: Frequent air travel in small aircraft and helicopters is necessary. Up to 3 months each summer is spent at a BLM outstation in Galena, Alaska, which is a remote village not accessible by road.

Travel, per diem, and lodging will not be paid. All travel and lodging expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the sole responsibility of the selected employee.
