Duties

Help

The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of manual tasks in food preparation and food service areas.

Serves food cafeteria or dining room style. May set up buffet lines, steam tables, and service stands with hot and cold food items including sandwiches, soups, hot dogs, burgers, baked potatoes, pizza, BBQ, meats, vegetables, salads, desserts, bread, butter and beverages. Assembles and tosses fresh fruit or green salads in quantity using prepared dressings, serves into standard serving sizes. Makes hot/cold sandwiches using prepared ingredients. May set up dining room tables for service, places food and beverages on tables, and replenishes items as necessary. Set up/clean tables for customers and replenishes condiment items as necessary. Breaks down and cleans area when meals are complete. May operate a full service grill, coffee/espresso bar. Prepares a variety of hot/cold specialty beverages such as cappuccino, brewed coffee, latte, espresso, hot chocolate, tea and other beverages, by selecting the proper ingredients and following set recipes for each individual variation of beverage. Receives payment, or charges to member's account as appropriate. Operates cash register, makes and returns change to patrons. Completes necessary documentation for cash funds accountability. May unload food from delivery trucks. May open and closes facility. Sets up and operates dishwashers, performs preventive maintenance and cleaning. Scrapes, soaks, scours glassware, dishes and utensils as required. Also performs heavy duty cleaning tasks such as coffee machines, ceilings, exhaust hoods, under and behind kitchen equipment, washes floors and walls, walk-in refrigerators and freezers, and sanitizes garbage cans. Collects and transfers trash from work area to disposal area. Maintains cleanliness of warehouses, assists in the equipment set up of special functions. Maintains work area in a clean and neat manner. Assists with inventories, identifies items for re-ordering. Trains new employees as needed. Uses a government computer for training requirements, time and attendance and for other job related purposes. Performs other related duties as assigned.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience:

Must be able to follow simple oral instructions, be able to use hand tools for cleaning, and operate simple machines. Must be skilled in doing tasks with several steps and must use judgment in sequencing tasks. Experience preparing coffee beverages for retail sale which includes knowledge of correct proportions and mixtures to use in preparing beverages preferred. Must be able to follow simple recipe cards. Must have knowledge of sanitation standards in handling and serving food, and for cleaning equipment and work area. Must be able to communicate with customers and possess skill in dealing with the public. Must be able to continuously stand and walk, and frequently stoop, reach, push, pull and bend for long periods of time.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.
