Summary

The position is organizationally located in the Architect of the Capitol (AOC), House Office Buildings, Assistant Superintendent Client Services Division, Labor and Custodial Branch. The incumbent is a working leader and will provide work instructions to other employees and perform the same type work as that being led. Incumbent is required to possess and maintain a valid state driver's license and any other license required for the type vehicle being operated.

Duties

Help

The tour of duty for this position is Day Shift 7am to 6pm depending on operational need.  

This position is emergency essential - Depending on the type of emergency the employee may be required to report to work during emergency situations.

Leads Laborer (Recycler) and/or Custodial Workers

Serves as working leader of three (3) or more employees in accomplishing laborer/recycling/custodial or special events work. Passes on to other workers instructions received from supervisor and starts work (e.g., by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group led). 

Laborer (Recycler) General Functions

Collects and sorts recyclable material, including aluminum cans, plastic and glass bottles, newspaper and paper, from various locations within the buildings. Relines recycle containers with plastic bags.

Completes work that requires heavy physical effort, including lifting and carrying boxes and sacks of paper, newsprint materials, computer paper, plastic, glass, metal and other recyclable materials weighing 80 to 100 pounds with assistance.

Loads and unloads recycled materials from vehicles and dump trucks and sorts various commodities of recyclable materials by category.

Assists trade shops to set up scaffolding, ladders and carry equipment, materials and tools to work site for construction or renovation.

Interior and Exterior Building Cleaning

Ensures that floors and hallways are washed and buffed; that tables, dressers, desks, radiators, light fixtures, fans, refrigerators and other furnishings are maintained, dusted and cleaned; that rest rooms are cleaned and supplied with towels and toilet paper; that ashtrays and trash containers are emptied and that windows and mirrors are washed. 

Working alone or as a member of a crew, performs the full range of custodial duties. Maintains a specified orderly and clean areas, following general instructions regarding the tasks to be performed. Sets up own schedule and sequence of tasks within the framework of general deadlines, which states the required frequency of each task.

Washes and cleans windows inside and outside of buildings using stepladders, extension ladders and safety belts.

Special Projects/Events Setup/Furniture Moves

Removes and performs furniture or equipment relocation and set-up for special events. Arranges chairs and tables in required configurations for special events and ceremonies.
