The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a recreation assistant for the Youth Center programs. Help administer a weekly and year round programs for active duty and family members which support personal and professional development, family and life skills, and leisure and recreation of children ages 3 -18 years.

Duties

Help

  • Provides information about the organization, functions, activities and personnel. Receives telephone calls, greets visitors and accept payments for all youth programs.
  • Computes, collects, records and deposit fees for all youth center programs.
  • Performs other clerical and administrative tasks in support of the office/organization. Establishes, updates and maintains office records of various types.
  • Serves as building supervisor in the absence of the Youth Director/ Asst Youth Director.
  • Issues and cares for youth recreational equipment Performs daily inspections of areas to insure that the space and equipment used by children is functional and free from defects before use.

  • The employee will be required to work an irregular tour of duty, which includes nights, weekends, split shifts, and holidays.

  • Must be able and willing to submit to an extensive background investigation to verify my suitability for employment. Installation Records Check and a NACI Security Investigation is required.
  • Must be able and willing to submit to a pre-employment physical as a condition of employment.
  • This position has "regular contact with children" which requires a State Criminal History Repository (SCHR) check to be completed on any person selected for the position. I am able and willing to submit to a SCHR check.
  • Valid Drivers License is required
  • Must be current on all required Immunizations.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, clerical and administrative support positions.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-04, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of a wide range of methods and techniques for administering a youth recreational program, knowledge of principles, concepts, and practices in implementing a youth recreational program of community activities; knowledge of standard procedures in youth recreation and child care fields and standards of care for children in a recreational setting; knowledge of fee collection procedures, consolidating daily funds collected, and completing documentation for bank deposits.

OR EDUCATION: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts.

OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position, only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

  1. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, using tact and courtesy.
  2. Knowledge of office functions to screen telephone calls and visitors, prepare and review correspondence, accept payments for program registration and perform other administrative work of the organization.
  3. Ability to plan, organize work and meet deadlines. Skill in typing and bookkeeping, A qualified typist is required
  4. Ability to learn money handling techniques and to analyze fee collection procedures. Knowledge of youth recreational programs and standards of care for children in a recreational setting.
  5. Knowledge of format and clerical procedures to arrange a variety of materials from different sources. Knowledge of various office automation software programs, tools an techniques to support office operations and produce a variety of documents, such as letters, reports, spreadsheets, graphs and filing systems.
  6. Knowledge of correct grammar, spelling; punctuation, capitalization and format to accurately prepare and edit written correspondence and reports.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
