Summary

This position is for a Lead Supply Technician in the Supply Chain Management Logistic Service at the Veteran Affairs Health Care System and catchment area in Miami. The selectee will lead three or more employees in the distribution area to provide wards, clinics, operating rooms, secondary storage locations, and other hospital facilities with supplies and material including, but not limited to sterile and non-sterile medical supplies, instrument sets, and equipment.

Duties

Help

Major duties include but are not limited to:

Leads up to three or more employees in the distribution area of logistics.
Distributes and balances the workload among employees in accordance with established workflow or job specialization.
Resolves simple, informal complaints from employees, and approve leave for a few hours or for emergencies.
Approves leave for a few hours or for emergencies.
Maintains stock at primary and secondary inventory locations for all clinical and administrative services.
Interacting with clinical and administrative customers to ensure issues and needs are identified, resolved or escalated to supervisor or Inventory Management Specialist.
Pulling stock inventory and material for delivery, and replenishing stock inventory, and ensuring critical supplies are appropriately monitored and controlled.
Monitors expiration dates, rotate stock to limit outdates, and remove items from use as required.
Receives supplies and material into the medical centers' catchment area.
Unpacks/uncrates supplies from shipping cartons and properly store supplies and material in main/primary inventory areas.
Conducts thorough periodic inventory, and discussion with ward and clinical personnel.
Utilizing computerized inventory systems to ensure sterility and integrity of the supplies, and material.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/31/2025.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.

Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.


Preferred Experience:
Leadership Skills - preferred but not required.

You may qualify based on your experience as described below:

Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:


Distributing supplies and materials, including sterile and non-sterile medical supplies instrument sets, and equipment to all areas of the facility.
Lead three or more employees in the distribution area to provide wards, clinic operating rooms, and other hospital facilities with supplies.
Assist in training new employees; maintains current knowledge and answers questions on procedures, and policies, etc.

Interacting with clinical and administrative customers to ensure issues and needs are addressed.
Monitors expiration dates and rotates stock; cleans assigned areas in accordance with aseptic principles; and receives supplies and material into the facility.
Have fundamental knowledge of applicable policies and procedures, as well as inventory systems, such as the generic inventory package (GIP), bar coding, aseptic procedures and Logistics processes
Scanning, bar-coding, receiving, storing and the distribution of medical and surgical supplies and materials; maintains stock by pulling stock, replenishing stock, and maintaining records on stock levels.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements: The work requires standing and walking during the entire workday, and frequently reaching, bending and lifting supply packages (occasionally weighing as much as 50 pounds). Work requires pushing loaded carts of medical supplies weighing more than 100+ pounds). With proper assistance, lift or move heavier items weighing over 40 pounds.

Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
