Summary

This position is located within Commander, Mid-Atlantic Region, Fleet and Family Readiness Program. The purpose of the position is to perform minor maintenance and repair on a variety of gas and diesel equipment, machinery and vehicles in support of the assigned activity. This position is located at Aeropines Golf Course on Oceana Naval Air Station, in Virginia Beach, VA.

Duties

MAJOR DUTIES:

This position may perform some or all of the following duties:

Follows a preventative maintenance program on all moving vehicles and equipment using test equipment and measuring devices such as diagnostic scopes, compression gauges, feeler gauges, vacuum and pressure gauges, micrometers and other analyzing equipment. Ensures that the proper preventative maintenance, e.g. oil change, tire pressure, lights, fuel, etc. are properly maintained in accordance with vehicle requirements and ensures that any/all maintenance issues, broken accessories or equipment (headlights, tail lights, tires, brakes, etc.) are repaired immediately.

Determines the cause of malfunctions by troubleshooting and repairs the full range of systems on a variety of automotive and heavy mobile equipment which have mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and diesel fuel systems, etc. Observes required safety, sanitation and hazardous waste disposal rules and regulations. As needed, repairs/replaces sensors, water pumps, spark plugs, brake shoes, mufflers, radiator, and etc. Replaces filters, screens, battery cables and clamps.

Maintains an inventory of frequently used accessories, supplies and parts which may include, but is not limited to oil, grease, batteries, tires, hand tools, power tools, and etc. Researches and submits purchase request for parts and repairs via the assigned supervisor.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Resumes must include information which demonstrates experience and knowledge, skills, and ability (KSAs) as they relate to this position. Applicants are encouraged to be clear and specific when describing their experience level and KSAs.

A qualified candidate possess the following:

Must possess the ability to read and interpret parts and repair manuals. Skill in the use of basic hand tools (i.e. wrenches, sockets, ratchets, brake tools, screwdrivers, etc.) and ability to operate a variety of test equipment ( tachometers, battery hydrometers, etc.).

In addition to the above, the incumbent must posses a basic understanding of the makeup and operation of various individual systems and their interrelationships to analyze test results. Must possess sufficient knowledge of various techniques for removing, replacing, cleaning and installing a variety of parts, components and accessories such as filters, radiators, universal joints, etc. to determine work to be performed.
