Duties

Help

  • Receives, examines, verifies, and identifies complex categories of materials and equipment, such as those which are classified, high-valued equipment, precious/strategic metals, and complex electronic or mechanical equipment, disassembles and assemblies, and components as needed for examinations/inspections.
  • Performs a broad range of standard traffic management in-checking assignments to include identifying hazardous, classified, AA&E, and sensitive cargo requiring special handling during in-checking.
  • Reviews Government Bills of Lading (GBL) and inspects shipments for any discrepancies to AA&E, classified, hazardous or general cargo and ensures data is correct, properly identified, packaged, marked and labeled.
  • Monitors special programs, computerized listings, and documentation/records and completes Supply Discrepancy Report (SDR) and Transportation Discrepancy Report (TDR).
  • Operates electric, LPG, or diesel powered forklift trucks and material handling equipment capable of lifting loads weighing up to 15,000 pounds as high as 168 inches.
  • Uses and maintains tools and equipment.
  • Utilizes safety, security practices and procedures. Follows established rules, regulations, and maintains a safe working environment.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-6900 Warehousing and Stock Handling Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The screen out element for this position is ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision.

Ideal Candidate: Knowledge of the techniques and equipment used in the examination and classification of standard, unusually and highly specialized items.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Effort: The work requires moderate to heavy lifting when moving material by hand or hand truck; walking and standing for prolonged periods of time; and bending, stooping, and pushing and pulling heavy material along conveyor lines. The materials handling work may require working on hard surfaces and lifting and carrying weights up to 40 pounds. May handle heavier items with weightlifting equipment or with assistance from other workers.

Working Conditions: Work is performed inside in a warehouse environment and outside in containment areas on year-round basis. Subject to cuts, bruises, abrasions, scrapes, falls from ladders, falling material, injury from equipment in moving or handling materials and equipment, and hazards involved in working in proximity to moving equipment such as forklifts, trucks, cranes, and conveyor lines. For materials handling duties, employee may be subject to hot, damp, cold, drafty, or poorly lighted areas; exposed to dust, dirt, grease, solvents, and high noise areas in a mechanical work area. May be required to wear protective clothing such as steel-toed shoes and gloves. When handling hazardous materials, protective equipment is provided.
