Duties

Help

Supports residence management and emergency coordination by assisting the Executive Director and Deputy Director, serving as an alternate emergency coordinator, communicating with Senate leadership and staff, and providing 24/7 on-call support for proctors. Leads supervision and development of live-in proctors, including providing guidance, task management, performance evaluations, and assisting with scheduling, hiring, and training. Manages the care and supervision of adolescent Senate pages, fulfilling in loco parentis duties by offering emotional support, conflict resolution, orientation, and daily oversight of pages’ wellbeing and whereabouts using direct communication and digital tracking systems. Provides medical first aid and emergency response, coordinates medical appointments, dispenses prescribed medications, and maintains detailed records of behavioral and health-related incidents. Supports enforcement of the code of conduct through investigation assistance, disciplinary recommendations, and upholding program policies to maintain a safe and compliant environment. Oversees administrative and logistical functions including facility management, communication handling, meal coordination, event and logistics planning, supply procurement, and participation in staff development to ensure smooth operation of the page program. Required Work Experience

  • 3-5 years of experience overseeing student populations, managing residence halls, and supervising staff.

Required Special Skills/ Knowledge

  • Training in Emergency Response; Mandatory Reporting; CPR Certification; Investigations.
  • Understanding of responsible decision-making processes within a supervisory and program management context.
  • Awareness of best practices for managing both professional staff and adolescent population.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively engage with staff, adolescents, and leadership.
  • Leadership skills to manage, motivate, and develop professional staff and adolescent pages.
  • Ability to make responsible, informed decisions under pressure.
  • Ability to balance the needs of diverse groups, including managing adolescent behavior and supporting staff performance.

Desired Qualifications

The residence supervisor role is strictly non-partisan, and candidates must be able to maintain efficient communication on a team of eight page program staff, with Senate pages, and with our partners in the Senate Page School, party cloakrooms, and other Senate offices.

  • The residence supervisor guides and supervises the work of each evening shift in the page dormitory and assigns and monitors the progress of daily tasks to proctor team members.
  • Quality candidates must have at least three to five years of strong residence life experience working with adolescent or college age student populations. Candidates are preferred to have at least one to three years of experience managing direct reports.
  • Candidates must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to document and report about concerns and events that occurred during their shifts.
  • The residence supervisor must be able to actively assign tasks to proctors while remaining a reliable member of a team that works collaboratively on planning and scheduling page program field trips and coordinating meals for pages.
  • The residence supervisor must ensure that tasks are completed, and they must follow up on daily assignments or concerns with pages throughout the work week.
  • Successful candidates will act selflessly and be focused on the larger mission at hand, ensuring that the utmost care and supervision is given to young, impressionable Senate Pages.
  • Candidates must be extremely detail-oriented and have strong initiative and drive.
  • Must model appropriate behavior for pages and proctors while actively providing feedback to proctors to develop and maintain a strong and consistent team. 

Working Conditions

  • Since this position requires onsite presence in support of the U.S. Senate when in session, this position requires the employee to be available and prepared to work during government shutdowns, in inclement weather, on holidays, and during late night, overnight, and weekend sessions. In the context of government furloughs, this position is considered excepted.
  • This position directly supports essential services of the U.S. Senate. As such, this position requires the employee be available and prepared to work during government shutdowns, in inclement weather, on holidays, weekends, and during late nights to ensure essential services to the Senate continue without interruption.
  • Work outside regular work hours (evenings, weekends & holidays).
  • Ability to lift objects up to 25 lbs.
  • Moderate activity, biohazard exposure.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree.
