About the position:This position is located at the Arts and Crafts Center of the 6th Force Support Squadron Community Services Flight, MacDill AFB, FL.

Requires walking, standing and considerable bending, kneeling and stooping. Strenuous physical exertion is sometimes required. May lift and move materials up to 40 pounds unassisted and occasionally lift heavier items with the assistance of other workers.

Duties

Help

  • Assists journeyman Woodcrafter by performing the simpler and more routine duties of the trade. Journeyman provides detailed instruction on new work assignments, closely supervises and reviews work while tasks arc being learned. Performs such tasks under less close supervision after they are learned.
  • Assists customers by assigning appropriate work area by considering size of the project, assisting in selection of tools, setups and operation of powered woodworking machinery such as drill press, radial arm saw, table saw, band saw, surface planer, jointer, and various hand-help power tools. Insure safety and environmental compliance issues are followed.
  • Builds and/or assists in the building of various special order projects for customers and/or the squadron within the level of work.
  • Provide limited direction and guidance to customers concerning how-to questions, this being based on personal knowledge of incumbent.
  • Assists in controlling tools, equipment and supplies.
  • Sign-out and check-in a variety of hand tools and stores them in specific locations.
  • Reports tools/equipment damage and malfunctions to supervisor.
  • Maintains the activity's environment in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Performs regular cleaning inside and outside of the facility.
  • Ensures storage areas are kept in a neat, clean, and orderly fashion.
  • Builds and/or assists in the building of various special-order projects for customers and/or the squadron within the level of work.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Qualifying Experience: Must have some experience in woodworking techniques, basic knowledge of materials and their applications. Must be able to demonstrate the basic use and operation of various woodworking power tools such as: table saw, radial saw, surface planer jointer, band saw, and chopper. Must possess skills in basic shop mathematics. Must be able to work with staff and the public in a professional manner. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
