Duties

Help
  • Plans and directs work of 20-35 employees at assigned lock and dam for day to day activities in support of the navigation mission.
  • Maintains overall responsibility for the operation, maintenance, and repair of the locks, dam, and related facilities.
  • Participates in long term repair and maintenance planning for the project by developing and prioritizing projects needed to insure continued effective operations of the locks and dam.
  • Conducts safety meetings, develops hazard analysis for each job, instructs employees in safety methods and practices, enforces safety regulations, and investigates accidents and prepares accident reports.
  • Provides technical advice needed to determine how work can be accomplished efficiently and economically within operational and fiscal requirements.
  • Consults with subordinate supervisors and explains verbally, or in writing, general work requirements, including methods and procedures to be used and quality of standards which must be met.
  • Conducts the full range of supervisory roles including setting performance requirements, making performance appraisals, counseling and awarding employees, and resolving concerns through discussion with employees and union representatives.

  • May be required to have an American Red Cross Standard First Aid card, CPR, and/or AED in good standing and/or wear a prescribed uniform based on site specific requirements.
  • May be required to complete a 1 year supervisory probation period.
  • This position requires a valid State motor vehicle operator's license prior to appointment and the ability to maintain the license for the duration of employment.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Lock and Dam Equipment Mechanic Supervisor without more than normal supervision. The ability to perform the most difficult and complex duties relating to distributing and balancing the daily workload of Lock and Dam Equipment Mechanics and Lock and Dam Operators, ensuring the facility is operated and maintained in the most efficient manner to provide uninterrupted and reliable service to the commercial towing industry, coordinating with other government agencies, developing long-range planning for river-dependent maintenance activities, and reviewing completed work to guarantee satisfactory results. Skilled in leadership, work direction, planning long term repair and maintenance, and administrative work - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Additional information
