Duties

Help
  • You will provide thorough assessment, counseling, and consultation services to clients who present for care with substance use risk factors and/or disorders.
  • You will interview individuals and family members to explore and analyze factors influencing personality development and family structure in relation to the development of symptomatic behavior patterns and complicated interpersonal problems.
  • You will analyze and evaluate the information obtained and makes use of other social and medical consultation resources as required.
  • You will keep up-to-date on clinical supervision/training and closely related areas in the field.
  • You will compile statistical data of services provided for review and analysis by supervisor and assists with quality improvement projects as assigned.

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • Must have master’s degree in a behavioral health discipline and independent licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).
  • Must have Substance Abuse Certification (Alcohol and Drug Counselor II, International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium substance abuse counselor certification, or state equivalent)
  • Must consent to a criminal history background investigation.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Providing counseling, interviews, and assessments of of clients to determine any substance use risk factors and determine a specific treatment plan and program, ascertain information from family members or significant others from client as needed. Provide training programs for appropriate personnel and assist with quality improvement projects.

Education

In addition to meeting the specialized experience, you will also be required to meet the following the individual occupational requirement(s) (IOR).

0180:

Degree: major or equivalent in psychology for all specializations except clinical psychology and counseling psychology. These two specializations have additional educational requirements, as stated below:

  • Clinical psychology: For positions at grades GS-11 and above, satisfactory completion of all the requirements for the doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology is required.
  • Counseling psychology: For positions at grades GS-9 and above, satisfactory completion of 2 full academic years of graduate study directly related to professional work in counseling psychology, or satisfactory completion in an accredited educational institution of all the requirements for a master's degree directly related to counseling psychology is required.
OR

0185:

Degree: social work. Must fulfill all of the requirements for the master's degree in social work in a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.

Master's degree with practicum: Applicants who complete all of the requirements for a master's degree in social work that included a practicum are eligible for GS-9.

In addition to meeting the IORs, you can qualify with the following educational requirement in lieu of specialized experience:3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
