Duties

Help
  • Conduct patient intake procedures, to include obtaining general medical information.
  • Take and record patient vital signs, blood pressure, and temperature.
  • Assist physician in performing procedures and exams.
  • Act as liaison between patient and primary medical care provider.
  • Recognize changes in patient's condition and communicates responses and/or changes to nursing personnel or physician.
  • Utilize medical terminology to effectively communicate with patients.
  • Stock procedure rooms, ensuring availability of equipment, instruments, and supplies for exams and procedures, and cleaning rooms after exams.
  • Confirm medical records are prepared and available to include proper entry of patient's data.
  • Utilize automated systems Military Electronic Record Systems, Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application (AHLTA), Composite Health Care System (CHCS) and Health Artifact and Image Management Solution (HAIMS) to input patient data.
  • Performs front desk duties as necessary.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random drug testing, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position has mandatory seasonal Influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal Influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
  • This position requires the incumbent to have Tuberculosis testing.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Lifting up to 40 pounds may be required.
  • This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes reviewing patient records; taking and recording vital signs, blood pressure, and temperature; staffing exam and procedure room and cleaning room after exams; utilizing a variety of automated systems such as Military Electronic Record Systems, Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application (AHLTA), Composite Health Care System (CHCS), and Health Artifact and Image Management Solution (HAIMS) to check patients into clinic and update patient data. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) preferred but not required
