As an AIRCRAFT MECHANIC LEADER (Title 32), WL-8852-10, you will lead three or more journeyman Aircraft Mechanics, WG-8852-10, crew chiefs, and specialist personnel. In addition, perform journeyman duties involving the inspection, repair, modification, and servicing of aircraft systems, components, and assemblies for both on- and off-aircraft.

Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list:

  • Lead three or more aircraft mechanics, crew chiefs, and specialist personnel.
  • Monitor work, set the pace, and ensure availability of tools and materials.
  • Ensure personnel are fully utilized and work is accomplished on time.
  • Check work in progress and upon completion for compliance.
  • Advise supervisor on work status, delays, and employee performance.
  • Recommend work schedule adjustments to meet functional requirements.
  • Knowledge of the makeup, operation, and installation of aircraft systems and assemblies.
  • Determine when new assemblies and/or systems should be installed or replaced.
  • Remove, replace, and adjust various systems, assemblies, and components.
  • Knowledge of types and extent of mechanical adjustments and alignments.
  • Read and interpret technical publications used in the repair of supported equipment.
  • Use schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical data to perform tasks.
  • Apply mathematical formulae to troubleshooting and diagnostics.
  • Use precision test equipment, hand tools, jigs, templates, and gauges.
  • Skilled in adjusting systems and assemblies using technical instruments.

Qualifications

AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of consideration for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code ยง 709), will be in the following manner and sequence:

  • The area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG.


Military Grades: Enlisted Only - Minimum rank requirement of SSgt and May not exceed the rank of MSgt.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WL-10 Level - MUST possess experience or training in installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting, and functionally testing various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification; experience coordinating the work of other mechanics and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimal workflow; the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military personnel, or other workers in the disassembly and reassembly of crash-damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for packaging and shipment; experience performing duties as a dedicated crew chief responsible for performing, coordinating, and/or overseeing maintenance actions and periodic inspections on aircraft, either independently or with assistance; experience coordinating concurrent maintenance tasks across multiple trades; and the ability to serve as the technical authority to advise on, examine, and approve all airframe, mechanical, electrical, and pneudraulic repairs of assigned aircraft.

SPECIALIZED LEADER EXPERIENCE: MUST possess experience that demonstrates the ability to plan, organize, and lead the work of others in fields directly related to the maintenance and repair functions of this occupational series; the ability to perform administrative functions in support of maintenance operations; the ability to read and interpret a variety of technical publications used in the repair and overhaul of supported equipment; and the ability to provide technical guidance and oversight to personnel performing work directly related to this occupational series.
