Duties

Help

As a Program Support Assistant, you will:

  • Process and prepare technical documents, consolidation, revision, tracking and reconciliation input from the Area Division's Mangers and technical staff, day-to-day office documentation processing, supply and service monitoring and visitor access and escort.
  • Serve as Trusted Agent of The Issuer for MARAD Personal Identity Verification (PIV) cards, is responsible for assisting, verifying, and issuing PIV cards for Area Division employees using the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) program HSPD12.
  • Serve as government purchase card user and support contract monitoring and day-to-day office functions, mail and package receipt, and visitor port and building access.

The ideal candidate is a mid-level individual with experience in processing and preparing technical documents, consolidation, revision, tracking and reconciliation input from the Area Division's Mangers and technical staff and developing into contractual terms for input into the DOT/MARAD contract writing systems.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • GOVERNMENT TRAVEL CARD: This position involves travel.  A government contractor-issued travel card will be issued and must be retained for official business only.
  • PROBATIONARY PERIOD: You must complete a one-year probationary period (unless already completed).
  • TIME-IN-GRADE: Federal applicants must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade in the competitive or excepted service in the executive branch to satisfy time-in-grade restrictions contained in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F.
  • DEU REQUIREMENTS: Applicants selected under delegated examining procedures may be required to successfully complete a one-year probationary period (unless already completed).

Qualifications

To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must meet the specialized experience requirements for the grade at which you are requesting consideration.

To qualify for the GS-07, you must have at least one year of equal or equivalent experience equal to the GS-06, which includes:

  • Experience using computer software, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, email, and project management tools, to perform daily administrative and office tasks.

To qualify for the GS-08, you must have at least one year of equal or equivalent experience equal to the GS-07, which includes:

  • Experience using computer software for program-monitoring functions in procurement and vessel maintenance systems to support the preparation of management and contractual documents or reports.
  • Experience analyzing data from vessel maintenance systems and utilizing procurement systems to create task orders, performance reports, and financial closeout documentation.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

  1. Manages and Organizes Information - Identify a need; gather, organize, and maintain information; determine its importance and accuracy, and communicate it by a variety of methods.
  2. Administration and Management - Knowledge of planning, coordination, and execution of business functions, resource allocation, and production.
  3. Clerical - Knowledge of filing, typing, entering data, maintaining records, taking shorthand, and using and completing forms.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).  Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.  You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
